I have a 10" 1200W 600 RmS sub and I want to Buy a 1200W 600 RMS amp. I seen a few sites where they say you shouldn't use your speakers full RMS potential is this true and if it is can I just turn the gain down on this amp or should I try and find a different amp.

you can actually run more power. due to impedance rise, voltage, and signal strength from the source unit.

so if you get that 600 rms amp you might see up to 100 watts less power due to the above scenario's.

you could get a 750 to 900 watt amp and be fine. who go's around jamming full on anyways? if you do then get a lower output amp or a more powerful sub amp combo.

i run a 1200 watt amp on 2 1000 rms subs. its plenty loud for me and sounds good too.

its all in the install also.

What makes you think you need a cap?

this guy :D haha i run my system pretty high alot, but i picked my components with such room, for instance my speakers can handle peaks of up to 600 watts per set

pretty much, you can be over rms, in fact its very hard to match the rms with the rms of an amp with a sub you are looking for, if your going single sub. genraly, i go 30% over, right now i have a alpine pdx 1.1000, that puts 1000 rms, and i have a polk SR 124 12" and its rated at 700 rms, with a peaker over 1500 i believer, but i could even exceed the 1500, because the fact that my amp puts out very clean power. clean power has no cliping, and good solid signals, so there is no distoriton or dmg being done to the speakers, if you go cheap, expect cheap. remember that ;)

for a cap, as long as its powerful enough, put it before your distrubuter blocks, thats fine. just wire it in parallel with your circuit, they're exceptionaly simple devices, idk why people get in a hot fuss when people put them in, they're very usefull. anyhow, yeah, before the block is best.
