I am looking to upgrade my sub to a Soundstream Tarantula T5-12 from a Type-R 12 getting power from alpine MRP-M500. What amp should i use to power this sub? I am looking at the Hifonics BXi 1210D amp. Is this a good combo? Does Hifonics under or over rate their output? Thanks guys. I have that amp but its an earlier model, its a very strong amp, runs cool and really bangs the woofers. I had it pushing 2 ppi dcx 124 subs with no problems. I think it will really push that soundstream hard.
how many watts were you giving ur woofers and at what ohms? it says i will get 1200 watts at 1 ohm but i heard they are overrated. how much TRUE watts do you think ill get?
I had the bxi1208d and it tested out at a rms of 765 or something like that at 2ohms.Rated at 900 rms at 2ohms.If I remember right my voltage was 13.4.I ran mine at 2ohms for 6 months and then at 1ohm for about 4 months with no problems at all.My friend who tested the amp moved so I never tested with a 1ohm load.
whats the difference in running amps in different ohm loads? (not including watts) also, anyone got comments about this amp or the T5 sub?
as for ohms the lower the number the more current the amp is asking for. Think of it as a garden hose, a normal hose would be 4 ohms, then a fire hose might be 2 ohms and a fire hydrant might be 1 ohm, the bigger you get the more water you can flow, but of course you need something to pump more water when the hose gets bigger. So the lower impedence (ohms) your amp is running the more current its asking for. hope that makes sense, i tried to explain it in simple terms.
It should work just fine.I personally don't care for the sound of square subs, but hey to each his own.
That would be good for hifonics.I really liked my amp,but it did draw alot of power. My lights dimmed really bad with that amp,and now only a little at a stop light(with a alpine m1000).
they're not square. lol. and also thats why im getting the 1200watts at 1ohm b/c i know they are overrateed and the sub only takes 900 RMS
I had my Hifonics Brutus BXI2010D bench tested at 2 different voltages. 1: 14.4 volts 4 ohms = 662 watts, 2 ohms = 1401 watts, 1 ohm 2024 watts So at 14.4 it put out the rated power. 2: 13.8 volts 4 ohms = 529 watts, 2 ohms = 1098 watts, 1 ohm 1878 watts A little overrated a 13.8 volts but thats normal. For the $$ imo their the best bang for your buck amps that are out there. I paid $248 brand new w/ 2 year warranty. It pushes my Type R 1022D's great, I run at 2 ohm's and I know their getting their rated power if not a little more. Hope this helps...
