hello. i have been using a power acoustik bamf 2000/1d. the first sub i got was a power acoustik p310. it pushed 800rms. blew this sub because i forgot that the amp pushes 1200rms. after this, i got two power acoustik p212s. together they added up to 1200rms. i am not sure if they are starting to blow or if it is the amp. when played all the way up, it sometimes skips some beats and then will come back. does this mean they are starting to blow too, or is it the amp?
i had the gain set about 80%. same with the bassEQ. when i noticed what was going on, i turned down the bassEQ a little. like i said, it works find when the volume is inbetween 20-25, but when i go around 28-30, it does the same problem
your gain should be set with a DMM... turn everything down ASAP.... no bass boost, use your LPF and set it to around 80hz-120hz, when you set your gain keep the EQ flat. once the gain is set you can make adjustments. here's a vid on how to set your gain with a DMM. if you don't have a DMM you can pick one up for about $20 if i'm not mistaken... Gain is not a volume knob, it there to match voltage so your amp can give the correct wattage needed to feed your subs. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=zm4aaC87ARg if you have any problems with setting your gains just let use know.
alright so i just figured all that out, but what should i set the bassEQ to then. my bassEQ goes up to 18db. i know i dont want it all the way up, but you think i should put it around half? or more
for setting the gain i would leave it at 0db... once your gain is set i would put it up little by little until you get the sound you want without distorting the subs... it's pretty obvious when you clip the signal of a sub, it will sound really crappy. listen to how it sounds when it's at 0db. what you want it the same sound coming out if it but just louder. if the sound changes then back off a bit
