My son just purchased some MTX subs. It has three 10" Thunder4000 subs operating at 12 ohms in one unit with a 4ohm speaker input.- specs are as follows:

    three 10" Thunder4000 12-ohm woofers
    frequency response 50-150 Hz
4-ohm total impedance (one speaker terminal)
    power handling 150-600 watts RMS
    peak power handling 1200 watts
    sensitivity 92.8 dB

He does not have a lot of money so he is looking for the best bang for the buck. I think he did well getting these sub - but I want to make sure he gets an appropiate sub. He's a teenager so he wants the "bump". I would like to have him get an amp that provides enough bump but not so much that I know he is on his way home and he is still 10 minutes away.

I am thinking a 2 channel - Power Acoustik ts620 (620 watts) - refurbished - Sony Xplod (1000 watts). There are numerouse Power Acoustic amps on ebay. I am leaning towards the Sony (refurb) for $70. Any thoughts? 2 Channel is the way to go - right?

the power acoustic would be my choice of those 2 amps, Also look at crunch, they make really good amps also and are pretty cheap.

I wouldn't go with the sony amp..
I'd go with a power acoustik

Thanks for the recommendation. How about some info on the recommended wattage and some discussion on a mono or two channel amp. I read somewhere that these subs were designed for a two channel amp - but I am not sure.

go for the biggest one you can afford. i would go for a mono amp since it will have a dedicated sub crossover built in.

like Pedro said go for a mono amp or class D bass amp. You can use a 2 channel amp but you would have to bridge it since you only have 1 speaker terminal to hook it to.

Thanks for the recommendation. We did some research and we are getting the Crunch P1400.2. Any concerns on drain on the electrical. Specs say 1400 watts RMS bridged @ 4.0 ohms and calls for 2 - 40 watt amp fuses. Will 8 guage wiring be sufficient? Car has 120 amp alternator and 550 amp battery.

with 2 40 amp fuses you should have no problem with electrical system. I would use at least 4 guage wire.
