    Hiya guys,
My car head unit, Pioneer FH-P80BT, has been working with my 2nd gen ipod nano perfectly but I've recently bought an ipod touch and when I connect it to the HU using an ipod adapater lead the HU displays 'error 19' and can't play any music. I've just been reading through the user manual and it says that the ipod touch is supported, but on software 1.1. The software on my ipod at the moment is 3.1.3.

In order to get my HU to recognise the ipod do I need to downgrade the software? Or is there an alternative solution?

Any helpful suggestions would be much appreciated, I really want to get this working.

    Thanks.

I have not had any experience with that unit yet. So I'm not sure.

Downgrading may be an option, but I would continue to use the Nano. If you have atleast a 4GB Nano your in good shape. Hopefully you have an 8GB, thats what I use.

Downgrading is a pain. You have to delete any newer firmwares or downgrading is not possible. In XP, go to RUN, then type in %appdata% then hit enter. The Firmwares are stored in the Apple folder. Delete then or move them somewhere else. Then block Itunes from accessing the internet. Then hook up the Ipod.

I think that was all the steps, its been awhile since I needed to do that.

I wonder if its possible to upgrade the firmware in your HU. Check with Pioneer.

Yes, luckily i do have the 8gb, but that is now full which is why i bought the touch in the first place.

Thanks for your help, I'll try to get in contact with pioneer and for the mean time keep using the nano. I'm hoping there will be a fairly simple solution though, but maybe I'm an optimist.

Alright I've spoken to Pioneer on the phone and he said that my set up should support the ipod touch on 2.0 software, so I think I'm going to try and downgrade to this software and see how it works out. Any idea if this will screw up my itouch or does it not really matter if you run an older version?

Sorry for the triple post but I've fixed the problem. So if anyone else is having a similar problem with their ipod touch, this is a solution. If you play music from the ipod before you connect it to the head unit and then connect it once music is playing it will play through the stereo no problem and work perfectly. I have no idea why you can't just plug it in, but I guess stereos find ipod touches a little too complicated.

Downgrading an iPod will not hurt it. When I first started using an iPod, it was with an older Kenwood. My second generation Nano would not work until I downgraded it.

Anyway you can upgrade it back anytime you need to. Finding an older firmware might be difficult, so good luck.

It isn't the best solution if i'm honest, I still get the error some times and the hassle of having to play the songs first isn't really worth the effort. I've gone back to using the nano because I can leave it in the car and don't have to mess around before playing music. So no, the solution doesn't work 100%, but does get the itouch to play through the system.
