I have a Original Kove Armageddon sub woofer 1050rms 22mm xmax 89db sensitivity. I have heard a car that can hit 144db and i knew right away mine was as loud, so I know my sub is roughly 140db. I want The best SQ sub that can achieve this within the 1000-1600rms range, and I would like it to be the best SQ possible for under $400. It would be nice to have a flat response down to 30hz and I would like it to some extent be able to hit down to 18hz. My enclosure size is limited to a maximum of 4.0 cubic feet. Thanks

I know elemental designs are good, but i have done much researching in the past and Those got removed from my list of what i want long ago, I have been on this big hunt for the perfect sub woofer that meets my needs, and I want to be absolutely sure I will be happy with the sub I buy for the next 5-10 years.

you don't have to be sorry, I used to be always want just loud when I was a teenager, but now ive had my kove sub woofer that has moved my hair, blown out lighters and hurt my ears, Now I want the same volume but better sound. My kove is from 1999 so I'd think that by now they can achieve the same volume but with much greater accuracy.

Look into the sundown sa-12s. They can get really low and sound good. they are rated at 600 rms but they can take more.

Then I would look at the box design (most important) and the sub (not as important) as a package. SQ and SPL are two different things. Given any speaker (brand does not matter to me), I can adjust the way it performs simply by changing the box design.

Using software, like WinISD, you can model how the woofer will perform. I typically adjust box size first to get the woofer to perform across the range I need it to work. Then I adjust the port tuning. Lower for flat response, higher for louder.

One other thing, the vehicle will also effect how the woofer sounds.

I have been trhough many forums and many responses and so far the sub that seems to appeal to me the most is the ssa xcon 15" I don't mind the cost of it, and I have already played with winisd and found a 4.0 cubic foot enclosure tuned to 30hz will be best for me. So do you think this will work?? Also I am putting it in a 8-person station wagon, so I think it should perform well with that.

Again, speaker brand means very little to me. All 15-inch woofers have similar surface area, so they have the same ability to make sound, basic physics.

Now lets look at your box, what is the -3dB point according to WinISD? Also how much relative gain do you have and at what frequency do we have the most? Wagons will be resonant around 40 to 45 Hz, so any peak in that area will be amplified. Keep the gain as flat as possible.

    Have fun

I would think a JL audio like 10w7 would be the best here. The w7s sound great and the 10 would punch pretty tight.

its all enclosure dependent. i have 4 8's and people say 8's cant play deep bass and mine can hammer the lows at a reasonable volume. not retarded loud mind you, but at a good listening level.

so a punchy bass is dependent on the enclosure.
