I like my focals (polyglass 165v1)... but they lack the midbass I really want. Its time to get something new. I listen to a variety of music, from hiphop/rap to dance/techno, to rock and music like Dave matthews band. I have a great head unit, great sub/mono amp and already a decent 4ch Kenwood amp powering my speakers so all that is already covered. I'm looking for a set of 6.5 component speakers that will get pretty loud with great clarity so I can enjoy all my music. I know some of you might ask about my preference on tweeters... I do like my focal tweets which are aluminum...can be harsh at times... but honestly since we don't have a great stereo shop near by, I haven't had much opportunity to listen to other types. Soo really I don't think it will matter to me as long as they sound great.

I have a vauge idea on what are good brands to look at and which to steer clear from, but pretty much I really need help to narrow this down. I know there are a number of brands that offer similar quality to focal at a much lower cost... so this is actually the route I'm looking to do. The range I want to stay in is $250-300.. and heres the kicker, I want to be able to find them on amazon.com :). (I have a g/c from there and I've been able to find many brands on it. Plus they have the A-Z guarantee incase something happens). I've looked into cdt, type x, Boston acoustics, etc... but without opportunity to listen to each I don't even know where to start looking. Any help is greatly appreciated! Thanks.

welcome to the site. glad to have you.

my first question is, how are the mids mounted in your door? are they nice and solidly mounted?
what about the xover freq for them? i have my polks at 75HZ hipass and they give me decent mid bass on most songs.

Well thanks for the greeting, they are mounted in my factory lacations of my wrx with 3/4" mdf spacers. The doors are sound deadened. I have them about the same, 70-80hz
