hello everyone - i'm new to the forum. I have installed quite a few stereos but am not a expert by any means... thats why I am here. ha.

Here is my issue: When I have my head unit switched to "AUX IN" and an iPod connected through a male-to-male cable I have static on the rear speakers.

I will explain what all I have installed as I am sure you will want to know...

    2008 Nissan Altima 2.5S

When doing this install my main objective was to have a nice sounding very crisp system that LOOKED and FUNCTIONED factory.

My factory head unit outputs to Soundgate XR 4channel line-out convertors. JL Premium Blue 4channel RCA cable runs to a JL 500/5 in the trunk. The 500/5 powers JL XR-650-CSI components in the front doors. (woofers in door/tweets in dash) It powers JL C2-650x Evolution C2 in the rear doors. It powers JL VR-690-CXI in the parcel shelf. The front speakers and rear door speakers run off the front channel of the amp while the parcel shelf speakers run off the rear channel of the amp. The amp pushes one JL 10w3v3 installed in a JL HOwedge box. My power and ground for the amp are 4 gauge. It pulls power from the factory alternator and an Optima RedTop. I have performed the big 3 upgrade on my ground cables, but not my power wire. The stock charging cable is about 6 gauge which I was okay with. Dynamat is in the trunk, parcel shelf, and all doors.

I experience static/noise in the rear channel (parcel shelf) speakers ONLY when tuned to the AUX of the stereo. With a CD or Radio i have clean sound. The noise sounds much like a ground loop buzz and is present during soft parts of songs and at low volume. I have played with the input sensitivity of the 500/5 to minimize this noise but its still there and I am OCD about it!!! ha.

I DO realize that running the factory head unit in this setup may be causing this issue, but I refuse to replace it with an A/M unit as this is the most stealth looking set up I have ever seen and I want to keep it that way.

I have tried a new ipod cable and a different ipod, no difference.

What ideas are out there to get rid of this noise or make it less noticeable?

Thanks to all and Merry Christmas!!

have you checked where your wires are run? it might be picking up noises from other wires? and by rear speakers do u mean in the back passenger doors or by the backglass?

At this point I would consider connecting the iPod directly (interface) to the car radio. I have used PAC products in the past and they work. Check this piece out

Becuase the problem only exists when the iPod is hooked up, I'm going to assume that your radio is the culprit. To check this you need to hook up another MP3 player and see if it has the same problem. But for now, I'm gonna blame the radio. The ipod only sends a left and right signal, the radio splits it to front and rear.

    x2 on what Ranger said..
I'm thinking that the problem is in the Aux port on the radio

Thanks for the advice! This is what my gut thought was... I will have tried another iPod and still have the issue - I think I will have to break down and run an interface for the iPod. Thanks!
