I have a small stockpile of older 2-shaft Delco radios I got when my wife's grandpa passed on. He had a 1983 LeSabre (and many other Buicks before it) and was a ham radio guy, loved to tinker with electronic stuff. Well, long story short, one of these radios is NOT a Delco radio. Same size, same shaft spacing, same look, but it's not one of the clones I'm used to seeing. I can't upload pics at the moment but I will try to tonight. Here's what the label says, and what wires I have to decode to make it work in my '76 Ford Gran Torino. MODEL R-947 power source: 12 VDC NEG GRD freq range: AM 540-1600KHz, FM MPX 88-108 MHz LEAR JET STEREO, INC. TUCSON, ARIZONA SN R47-13997 MADE IN JAPAN This receiver complies with Part 15 blah blah blah. The wires available to attach are as follows: Separate: gray: screws into back of case near antenna lead (ground?) bright green: screws into back of case near the rest of the bundle orange: comes from the top of the case, runs around to the back Bundled: green, yellow, red, med blue, light gray, tan It also has a GM antenna lead plug (long black plastic tube). It's not exactly standard wiring, is it? My guess is this radio is late 70s, early 80s, generic aftermarket. It would likely have been removed from, purchased for, installed in, etc...some form of Buick Electra or LeSabre.
OK, the '76 Torino it's going into has four wires coming out of the old AM mono radio. Black and black/blue Black and blue/red The blue/red is for the dial lighting, so I get that part. The black wires, I have no idea, and I assume the black/blue is the speaker? This is a mono system car with a fader control. One speaker in the front (mono) and two speakers in the back (not sure). There's no need for power when it's off (manual pushbuttons, no clock), so I imagine one of the black wires is for power. Or both. I think the case grounds to the dash frame. So I put the LearJet stereo in the car, and although it fits, it's too deep in the dash to use knobs. I'm going to try and locate another radio bracket and bend it to fit. Then I'll be able to ground the back of the case into the support bracket and ground the LearJet's ground wires on that. But I need the pinout for the LearJet radio and I'll keep trying to look up what the four Torino wires do.
