I am thinking of swapping out my Focal FP 4.75 amp 75w 4 channel amp for either a Alpine PDX or JL HD 4 channel amp. My Focal runs really hot and I could use some head room and punch. Car is a 09 Mini Cooper S stock head unit Alpine Imprint Processor Hertz Hi Energy 2way fronts JL w3w 10" in sealed box Not that serious of a little system I guess but I can swap the Focal FP amp for around $130-190 for either the Alpine PDX 4.150 or JL HD600/4. Either of these amps will give me more power and less heat. Thoughts and opinions?
how much you looking to spend?? both the pdx and jl hd is pretty expensive. both are also putting out 150 rms at 4 ohms, hope your speakers can keep up if you get those. also how many watts are you looking for?
Both are really good amps. I personally think the PDX is a real sexy amp. Which will cost you more? How much are you willing to spend for the amp? from what i saw, the JL looks pretty expensive.
Unless Alpine has improved their full range class D technology, I would recommend the JL Audio HD series. I don't know how to explain it, but it always seemed that the Alpine PDX amplifiers were lacking on the low end, and a review even noted this: http://www.caraudiomag.com/0607_cae_alpine_pdx_4150_amplifier/index.html
The JL HD600/4 will only cost me $190 more...the dealer will take back the Focal FP amp that I paid $375 for....I will end up having $565 into the JL amp. Seems like a great deal to me. My Hertz High Energy HK165 are rated for 125 continuos and 250 peak so they can handle the power of the Alpine or JL.
