hey everyone. i recently got a new system in my car, 1400 watt crunch amp, and 2x 12'' crunch subs. after we installed them my guage lights in my car do not work, as well as my tail lights. my system worked fine when i installed it, but now i cant play it too loud without it repeatedly shutting off until i turn it down. also when i turn on my headlights, my radio + subs n amp all turn off for a sec. how can i fix this? what do i need to do. sorry i dont know that much about this stuff and im trying to learn
Welcome Awrf... First of all, we have to know how your wired everything... 1. how do you have the power set up? is it fused near the battery? is the power running on one side of the car with nothing else beside it? 2. What gauge wire are you using? 3. Where did you ground the amp to? what size wire is your ground? did you sand down your grounding point to bare metal? 3. Are the RCA's run on the other side of the car and not touching the power and ground wire? 4. Remote wired properly? 5. you have to subs, right? how are they wired? what impedance? In this case, i'd say pictures of what you did would be very helpful so we can trouble shoot your problem.
1) have the wire going from my car battery to amp. all running on one side (drivers side - side the battery is on) 2) 4 guage 3) ground wire to a metal part in my trunk, next to my taillight (car is a neon) did not sand anything down 3 again) all my wires are ran on the same side. ground wire is not next to them. 4) 95% sure everything is wired correctly, as it was working perfect when i first put it in 5) not exactly sure what impedance is. here are pics of everything: ground wire amp with wires wire on battery any other questions let me know and i'l explain to the best of my ability. thanks for the help . edit: also, i was driving today with my radio basically off, and when it flickered on/off, i had the volume at zero and some time on my way home it just turned off and now it will not turn on.
Ok, first off. you have to run the power and RCA's on opposite sides of the car. secondly, you will have to sand that ground point to bare metal. then you'll have to find out if the crunch subs are single voice coil or dual voice coil, 2 ohm or 4 ohm and then you're going to tell me how you wired them. Lastly, let me know how you set your gain on the amp. for now, turn the gain way down and see if that will change how your car will react to it. I'm really not sure if 4ga wires are good enough for a 1400watt amp. if you can give me a link to your subs and amp then that would be great.
Hey, I like to run the power wire on a completely separate side of everything else. It also was a bad idea to ground it to the tail lite. You mite wanna get a little cap also. It is a neon.

ok got it... now how do you have the subs wired to the amp. It's a two channel amp so do you have one sub/channel or do you have the amp bridged? can you explain the wiring you did? since they are DVC 4ohm subs did you wire the subs in a 4ohm impedance and bridge the amp?
okay, well i fried out my radio somehow... and i talked to some people and got a new radio, and also i got a bigger gauge ground, and it has been working fine now.. my subs, box, and amp all together was like $250 :]
