Okay I got this really nice headunit from pioneer (DEH-P980BT) and so I took my dash apart to drill some holes and install a couple of fans when this live wire (dont worry its fused) toches the top of my deck and puts up a nice little light show. So oh s*it not a big deal I thought, WRONG! I get up the next morning and start the engine up and SCREEEEEEECH POP POP BANG and all kinds of noises including some hella alternator whine that over powers my music. WHAT HAPPENED??? The engine is off and and I can hear the internal fan and cd start up and spinning through my speakers! I have read about grounding the chassis of pioneers to your vehicle and I did EXACTLY that! Will PLEASE someone enlighten me why my deck all of a sudden puked out on me
Sorry dude but when you install anything you should always disconnect the negative terminal on your battery... You probably screwed up the deck.
my freind had that happen to his pioneer 980bt. something inside the unit died. his was a" burned ground lead" his words. can it be fixed? yes. will it cost a lot? maybe. so find a repair shop and find out. does it make noise from the speaker wire outs too?
Ya its the deck. it also just so happens that my deck is the exact same model as your friends. Turns out its gonna cost me about a $100 and two weeks without music. It is called a pico fuse and it is supposed to protect your amps from damage because your deck grounds through the rca shield or something like that. Anyway, to anyone with a pioneer deck, on the back of your deck is a bolt thread, something like M8 x 6, but that is your chassis ground. ground that thing VERY well. And like the other guy said DO NOT MESS WITH YOUR STEREO WITH HOT WIRES. You will fry your fuse and it will suck very much.
