Rear speakers for a people carrier

This is going to be either an unusual question or something that's asked all the time!

My wife drives a Vauxhall Zafira people carrier and wants some decent speakers for it. I can shoe-horn some decent speakers into the front speaker housings but it doesn't matter what I put in the back because they're 3 miles behind the driver in the boot. So I was thinking the best sound for the driver is going to come from a pair of speakers mounted on the columns behind the middle set of seats angled slightly forward.

    So three questions:

    1. Am I right?
    2. If I'm right, where can I buy them?
    3. If I'm wrong, what's best for a people carrier?

The best sound would be coming from the front speakers of the car... it's called a front stage... When you listen to a band they don't play behind you so you'd want to have a very nice set of component speakers up front...

Do you know the size of the speakers up front? Could you fit a set of 6.5" component speakers in the front? I would just stay stock for the rear unless you really want to change them out.

In addition to what i have said earlier.. If you want sound for your rear passengers (not the driver cuz like i said the driver or front passengers should depend on the front speakers) is probably to put some speakers in the rear door which would entail cutting some holes in the rear doors..

Sorry, should have Americanised my post! It's a 7 seater, a bit like a Chrysler Voyager but it doesn't have a 10 gallon engine and it can go round corners (English humour, don't worry about it ;) ).

The reason why I want to put some decent rear speakers in is twofold. Firstly, the kids like their music and they would appreciate the better sound and secondly, the rear speakers point up into the back half of the car behind the middle row of seats and it's like a hangar effect. I figure that angling the speakers forward from the pillars will give better sound quality for the rear passengers and the driver, especially seeing as how the front speakers are down at ankle level (http://www.ukcar.com/road_tests/vau...ll/Vauxhall.Zafira.2.0.Comfort.Door.Panel.jpg).

wow thats just bad speaker placement.

im not sure you can buy a set already angled, it sounds like they need to be custom fab'ed to get the look you want.

maybe better speakers and adding an amp can help. not sure your wife will like you cutting up their car. at least most wouldnt..:)

She won't mind what I do as long as I don't make a hash of it!

When the back two seats are up they will stop an echo but when they're down it'll sound like a cave. Ok, slight exaggeration but there's no point spending the money if it's going to sound crap. That's why I thought of angling the speakers forward so the sound isn't getting bounced around in the back.

I do drive a people carrier (nissan grand livina), but mine did have speakers at the rear doors. I changed to a Pioneer deh p7150ub as a head unit and used it to power front components audio-system x-ion 165 and rear coax by the same brand. Im quite happy with the existing setup, not needing subs at all. If I have to do it another way, maybe Ill use focal 165 front components and focal rear coax wherein the tweeters' angle can be changed.
By the way you have to deaden the doors for optimal sound quality.
    cheers
