So upon the local shop telling me the sl 5500d is a bad ass amp I bought one, against my gut feeling! Usually I have had phoenix gold, kicker, even Mcintosh. I went to get a new kicker PG or something big round 1000 watts. Any way got sold on the PA was gonna be powering 3 PG ds comps 12 dvc, but before I got them in I wired up some Rf punch 4ohm dvc's from a couple years back, I ran them par. to 1 ohm I believe I thought it was pulling 4ohms nice and safe according to one installer, but that would have been to a two ch. right?! DUH! get a new job buddy! But the amp should handle 1 ohm any how. To the point it bumped for 5min. or so then popped my power wire fuse, kept putting new fuses in and they would blow as soon as I would turn the deck on, wouldn't even get a sound so everyone said bad amp so I take it back they swap new one, same thing happens again exactly again bumped for a minute then pop, then just pop again and again right when the deck came on! So i think well if this is such a bad boy maybe my power wire fuse being only 60-100 amp fuses I had in were pulling to much and It just needed more juice. Dude at shop said "it could pull 300 amps!" So i run the power wire around the fuse. The amp has it protection mode right? wrong turn it on no sound just SMOKE! the amp just went up like smoke bomb, I quickly yank the power wire before my car goes up with it. I go back to take again they say " cant help ya"! two shops checked my wiring and could find no problems. They will only charge me $110 to trade out again or I can send it in myself! After I just spent under a grand with them for the amp and subs and a box! What the fudge happened? Sorry for the book just wanted to answer all details up front!
I ask why they wont help me and they say that I needed a second battery or cap or something and its my fault because I starved it for power! How can it starve when it wasnt even producing sound? P.S. they never ever mentioned another bat. or anything till this point!I spent almost a G i could have spent another hundred on a good second battery! Why did this happen supposedly these amp can handle under 1ohm i have read other places. This forum or at least a member or two seemed to suggest these amps to everyone while tons of other people laugh at them like they're Kraco or something? I am so ****ed I didnt get PG or basically anything else on the higher end but I have been out of the game along time and have read that alot of the old school badboys like PG autotek and hifonics sold out and over rate and build crap like everyone else so I was unsure and trusted these guys, the whole shop from custties to installer were oh and ah in while I was getting it like it was "the shiznit" Next shop I have look at my wiring and amp scoff and act like i just bought a boat anchor for 500 bucks! At least back in the day sales man would say " hey bro that sucks buy this, dont buy that buy this!"
And this is why I no longer deal with local shops ever for anything. Ok PA is a DECENT brand especially for people on a budget. Considering how much you spent on that amp well you got screwed big. You fried the internals, thats a given. I say call PA and talk to them and see if they don't have a warranty that they will stand behind, but I wouldn't mention that I straight wired power wire to the amp. The fuse doesn't need to be big, not 300 amps (or i doubt it seriously). Maybe you just wired the subs wrong maybe to a ohm load under 1? Check here to see how wiring goes. I remember my local shop trying to sell me some Power Acoustic MOFOs, luckily I didn't bite cause I haven't heard many good things about their subs.
