    Hi,

I'm new to this forum and new to car audio. i'm looking for some mid level speakers for my car. my front has 2 4" and i have 2 6" towers in the rear. its a 1988 rx7.

im thinking of going either JL or focal in the front
and some polk or boston in the rear. i want the componenet systems but i have no idea where i can mount the tweeters. is that even possible? component speakers in the rear with tweeters in the front? its only a 2 door.

    Welcome!!!

Ok, this is what speakers your car takes:

    Front speakers
    Dash: 5"
    Front Door: 6-1/2"

    Rear speakers
    Side Panel: 5" factory speaker

now, do you plan to put an amp for speakers that you'll buy? Front speakers are more important than the rears so I would say invest in a good front stage for your RX7. Focal, Polk, Boston and JL are all good comps. I would say, listen to those brands and pick the brand you like best.

I do know that Polk are very good. I like the sound of Focal but some find the highs a little to bright or harsh. JL can also have bright highs as well. Boston, i've never heard though.

On the midbass side i do know that polk and Focal have excellent midbass but it all boils down to preference.

What models of the above mentioned brands are you looking at?

oh, with a component set, you can mount the tweeters right on the dash or you could mount them on the sail panels. Dash mounting however is a lot easier to do.

i have no idea whats the difference and whats good and whats not.

for the rear, can you even have componenet speakers in the rear? and put the tweeters in the front? if so,

boston acoustics SL60 or SX60 (same price, dont know the difference)

i wasnt planning on putting an amp, unless i really need to. i only drive this car on weekends or once/twice a month. sometimes even less, but i dont want anything crappy, or something too expensive either.

ok, so from what you're saying is that you just want decent sound then without breaking the bank?

Phoenix Gold RSD's are solid speakers and will get the job done for a VERY small price. I think you should take a look at them, a lot of people rave about them especially for the price and since you just wanna go stock (w/out an amp) i feel you should really consider them.

please recheck to make sure the speakers in the dash aren't 5".

here are the links to the Phoenix gold:

all the ones you listed are very good.... the only thing i'm saying is that if you just plan to keep the system pretty much stock it may be better to go with something cheaper that sounds good.

Focal/Polk/Boston/JL are all very good brands.. you can't go wrong with any of them. just make sure you keep the RMS wattage down since you're only gonna power it with the deck.

oh, and don't buy from crutchfield. they are way expensive there.

look at ebay, woofersetc.com, sonicelectronix.com or even millionbuy.com

nope. not a convertible. its the 10th anniversary edition.

i wouldn't put the midbass in the back and tweeters up front. the sound timing will be all off. you want to keep the tweets as close to the midbass as possible.

how about doing a little custom work in your doors to fit 6.5" in there?

according to crutchfield.com you have 5's in the dash and 6.5's behind you,and it does say there are 6.5's in the door. maybe they are behind the carpet and it just looks like there arent any there, but its your car. you know it better than i.

if you only drive this car as little as you say then i wouldnt spend a lot on the audio, but just what will sound good for not a lot of money. the bostons you chose should fit the bill just fine, but the site says it will not fit. take out the old ones and measure to make sure they are 4's.

no need to waste a lot on something you wont use on a regular basis.
