Hey guys, im putting together my first system and im trying to figure out an a good box for the sr-124. Ive messed around with some online calculators and box design software and I think I want to make a wedge shaped box with the magnet facing out (because polk suggests so). Polk says a proper enclosure is from 1.0 to 1.5 ft^3. Ive came up with a box of these dimensions 18x18x18 with 1" thick MDF. This should give me an interior volume of 1.18 ft^3. Im just asking on here to see if you guys believe this is a good idea or not. Thanks for any feedback.

Normally I would recommend a ported box, but not with that woofer. Your dimensions will work well. However you might consider making the box 1.5 ft^3 and face the magnet inside the box.

Thanks for the feedback. Yeah I was thinking today that maybe I should put it inside the box for ease and safety issues. I don't want water dripping off my trunk onto the exposed wires :). I also think im gonna make it a plain rectangular shaped box, because its my first one and I dont want to do a really complicated one for my first.

Good idea. If you try inside dimensions of 12-inches by 14-inches by 16-inches, you will end up with an internal volume of 2688 cu inches. That will put you at 1.55 ft^3.

The woofer plus a little internal bracing will eat up the extra cubic inches.
