Is 130 watts too weak for a 12 inch tube?

    Hey there, first post, thanks for having me,

    I bought a 12 inch amplified tube subwoofer. But I noticed that it only had an 130 watt amp inside. Does that mean it's going to fry? If so, how long do I have before it goes?

    hmmm. what brand is it? if it's an amp made for the tube then you should be okay.. how does it sound?

    Thanks!

    I love the sound (though I'm not an audio expert).

    I'm just worried about the amp inside, if it'll get too hot and melt or something.

    if it is a bazooka tube don't worry at all...they will play all day for years as long as you take care

    More power = more heat... it's more likely that a high power amp would fry. (and typically lower impedance amps yield more heat, given all else being the same)

    But what's more important is that the amp is designed properly, including heatsink design, so that the amp has enough heatsink to dissipate whatever power it is making.
    And, just as important, how it is installed - you wouldn't want to cover the heatsink or install the tube in a way that the amp is covered up. It needs fresh air to dissipate heat into, to stay cool. ;)
