I have a pioneer n-5. Several people have asked about hooking a hard drive to it so I could download all my music and videos on the hard drive and access it through my head unit. Has anybody done this? I know I can do it with an ipod, but don't know if it can be done with just a hard drive. Any info would be appreciated. On my av menu screen there is a button for a usb connection, but I don't know if I would be able to access/control the usb devise through it or if it's just an input for stuff like MP3 players. I would be willing to do it with an ipod, but there is more storage on an external hard drive.

Yes it can, I've hooked up a Western Digital Passport through the USB port and it work flawlessly. Now, the USB hard drive needs to be formated FAT32. This should not be a problem. For Example, the Western Digital hard drive can be formated this way (assuming it didn't come that way) using a utility available on WD's web site.

Also, it will take the Pioneer a minute or two to access the drive, so use a smaller drive, 80 or 120 GB would be more than enough drive. This will speed up the access time.

Is there a certain cable that I need to buy and will any hard drive work or do I need a western digital. Hate to ask so many questions, but want to be sure. When you access it, does it come up in folders or just a big list. Thanks for the info!

the reason he probably suggested that one is cause it uses the usb for power.

I wouldn't mind using western digital, I just have to find one around here. I know there are alot of other brands that are usb powered. That's why I was asking if any had drive would work. I have an external hard drive that I could try. I would just have to use a power converter because it's ac powered. I just figued that if he has done it before, he would be a great person to ask.

im using a hard drive with my alpine ida x200 and it works fine. only complaint is that it takes a good like 5 minutes to load up all of my music when i turn the car on...

The Pioneer access a little fast than the Alpine. If you put your music in as folders, it will show up as folders. You can speed up access time by putting all your music in folders ( playlists). The less tiers you have the fast the access.

The usb adapter is in and working great. Used a little ole 2gb flash drive I had laying around. I'll get a bigger one later. This was well worth the money. Don't have to worry about scratched cd's anymore.

I just bought a f700bt and i know that i can store movies, "videos," on the sd card to watch them, but the movie pops up as a smaller screen in the middle of the lcd. How can i make it full screen or as close to it as possible? Is it the format? And if so, what other format should i use in order to fix this minor problem??

    I really don't know.

So lets see what we can figure out. Put the SD card in your computer, right click on the video, select properties, then select summery and finally advanced.

Post that info here, mainly the size. Also what format is the video, .avi, .wmv, .mov etc
