My AM just went out in my Phase Linear car stereo and yet my FM works perfectly fine anyone have any experience on what the problem may be.

AM and FM are typically two seperate systems in the radio. A problem like that would not be cost effective to repair. So I would recommend replacing the unit.

Don't throw any money at this yet. Just had the same thing happen to me. The culprit turned out to be the antenna cable. It ran from the fender well into the passenger kick panel. At that point there was a connector for an extension to reach the radio. It had separated. An easy test is to unplug the the antenna cable from the head unit and with an ohm meter check for continuity between the antenna mast and the coax.
