Looking to replace my factory speakers in my 97 Accord. I finally got tired of all the noise. I found these 6x9's: http://www.mbquartusa.com/premium_speakers.html http://www.onlinecarstereo.com/CarAudio/ProductDetail.aspx?ProductID=20082 MB Quart PVI 269 2-way component speakers. I was impressed with the hype from the website but I do not have the opportunity to listen to them. I heard these infinity kappa 693.9i in Best Buy, but I wasn't too impressed with them:  http://www.onlinecarstereo.com/CarAudio/ProductDetail.aspx?ProductID=19664 But don't get me wrong, they did sound good. So I would like to have opinions on the mb quart as well as get some recommendations. Again, my main concern here is CLARITY...not loudness or bass. I would like something a notch or so above the infinity kappas as I was not entirely impressed by them. I am willing to spend ~$200ish per pair, give or take about $50 bucks. Thanks in advance for the knowledgeable responses.
The only other place I can think of is circuit city. There's sound advice, but they're going out of business. I'll have to search for some small independent companies this weekend to see if I can find some to listen to.
For entry level mids, I dont like Focals price point at around $200. Don't get me wrong, they make great speakers. I just don't think they are all that amazingat this level. Their higher end stuff sounds amazing but it's like $500 and up retail at that level. I think MB quart sound great for that price point, and I like Kappas as well.
Shop small shops!! Best Buy, Circuit, etc, are OK, but if you want to look at any mid to high end gear, go to an independent retailer. Ask lots of questions and listen to different speakers in an A/B format. If you try to listen to more than 2 sets of speakers at a time, you will only confuse yourself more. Just my opinion, after 10 years in the industry.
i have a 97 accord (lx sedan) as well, and if you plan on upgrading the 6.5 door speakers, you may want to keep in mind that the depth of the door doesn't go very far..unless you want to customize it yourself. the window gets in the way when you roll it down, and will interfere with the speaker if it's too deep. it's a bummer because good 6.5 speakers have a lot of depth.
