my friend at work had a sub under his seat and fired it up after i told him it was a bad idea. he did it anyway and his sub was crushed every time someone sat in the seat.

he built it too close to the seat. the other way around you can get away with sitting on it and not hurting the sub,and gain that space they need.

Would a grill solve the crushing problem?

It would have to be a strong grill - but it might.

with your situation, maybe it would be best to have the subs downfiring.

    ?

Yea. Thats going to be really hard to accept. So you don't think theres any way to protect those subs other than down firing?

a safe way other than downfiring? you could go with a smaller box so the subs won't touch the seat but then your box area will be really small.

Maybe some of the box designers would be willing to help out. G3, azn, ranger and electro want to give it a shot?

they would need your max measurements for the box.

To me though, downfiring would be the way to go.

ok well dont let me burst your bubble the cvr subs arnt that good man ya there kicker but not good ones. if you wanna stay with kicker you wanna get the 06cvx122 its a lil bit more than the cvr but god damn that will sound so much better and you want 2 so if if was me i would buy an autotec amp get the autotek ss1500.1d that will power those subs great and you will be in bussiness.

I don't think a smaller box would be a good solution because 7" of mounting depth is already not much to work with.

I like the probox a whole lot, but 10"s... idk, I think I'm bent on 12"s and I'm also hoping to have a carpeted box to blend in with the interior. Do you think that the box I showed earlier would do as good of a job sound-wise?

That is BADASS, but a little too badass for me and my car. Haha, really good idea though and I bet it sounds amazing! I think I'll try to stay under the seat though.

I haven't made any purchases yet, and won't even think about buying anything until I've gotten all of you guys imput. :D. But, yes, I have thought about shallows. I heard lots of negatives regarding their sound quality and someone mentioned to me that I could fit a regular sub with 7", so i changed my outlook. Should I go back to shallows?

Your talking about >$350 per sub and I don't have that kind of money because I'm planning on replacing the whole truck's system. Also, the mounting depth is a little deeper and that only worsens my lack-of-space problem. Good input though. Thanks Richard.

I think what I'm going to do when I get home (on a trip right now) is buy some cheap plywood and make the biggest box I can under the seats. I wouldn't actually use the box, it would just be a measurement tool and show us how much room I have. I would then relay the measurements to you guys and it would help in a box decision/ design. Its not too much touble for me and I think it could tell us a lot about usable space. Should I do this or is that a weird idea?

Sorry about being so picky with all of this stuff.

    Thanks,
    Chevyman

two 10s in an optimal enclosure will most likely be louder than two 12s in a non optimal box

I dont mean to just jump in but like Pedro was saying about shallows, they arnt bad, i use them and ive got 2 Kicker CVT 12's. O've also heard 2 12" CVR's and in my opinion the shallows are better by alot. I dont know if they are as good as the CVX as i havnt heard them. Also CVT's are cheap enough for your budget still. You can get the 4Ohms for like 70 bucks on ebay.

    SQ10...DON'T BUY IT!!!

Please don't buy it...it is the only bad product I've had experience with eD.

Powerhandling specs are overrated...realistically 100 watts is all you need...more than that you run into mechanical problems. They sound good and have decent output with the power inputed. The coil could take 300 watts I'm sure...but the suspension can take it.

you could use cardboard to mock up an enclosure instead of wood.

dont be put off by 10's. i get decent out put out of 1 10.

Cardboard... wow I'm dumb. Haha, Ill do that.

Well it sounds like the Kicker CVT's are pretty good and that means I can make a smaller box. If I used the http://www.sonicelectronix.com/item_8585_Kicker+CompVT+07CVT124.html with some polyfill in a sealed box (most likely .8-1.0 cu ft), would I get some pretty good results? If so, better than that of two kicker CVR's?

    Thanks,
