well its been awhile since ive done anything to my car, as far as audio goes, but im looking to get a sub. Ive finally had it with just using my 6x9's, they arent giving me what i want in the low ends. i am really dissapointed with what they sound like with my amp (alpine MRP-F550). im not looking to blow anything away, but they get distorted easily. so what i think i will do is buy a jl w1v2 10" (50-300 rms) and bridge my 3rd and 4th channel to the sub, which will put out (250 rms). and i will just use my 6x9's through my HU. but to be honest i dont know if this is a smart thing to do? ive read a review which someone used an apline amp similar to mine, putting out about the same rms, on a w1v2 and he was very dissapointed. he wasnt tryin to blow his ears out, nor am i, but he said it only did a little more work then a pair of 6x9's, and he ended up returning the sub and getting a better amp and better sub. Again, to be honest, i am planning on buying this sub only becuase it is the a sub that will work with the rms of my amp, it comes with a box, and its affordable. but if it is just a flop...it would suck. should i just forget it? get a better amp, then get a sub? i dont want to buy a mono, i dont feel like wiring, and i think it would be too much on my car. so if you guys could give me your words of wisdom, i would be a happy guy.
The sound and output from the sub is 90% enclosure depended...what you heard was a bad install. Full range speakers are not made to make a lot of bass...thats why your 6x9's are distorting. A single 10 inch sub in a nice ported box can do wonders
there is one more route you could choose. how about a 6x9 sub woofer? Parts Express:Tang Band W69-1042J 6"x9" Subwoofer its about as stealth as you can get. no box to worry about at all. that is of course if you want to keep the 6x9's you has as rear fill. also azn is right.the right box can do wonders with as much power as you plan on running. i used to have around 250 watts going to my 10 and it got nice and loud.
well what im planning on buying is the sub that is already enclosed. i guess its all made by jl and then sold. im gonna go with a sealed box. seems legit to me? JL Audio CS110RG-W1v2 Sealed PowerWedge enclosure with one 10" W1v2 subwoofer at Crutchfield.com
Hey, it's a little more but this will put out a lot more low end bass. JL Audio CP110G-W1v2 Ported PowerWedge enclosure with one 10" W1v2 subwoofer at Crutchfield.com
