    Throttletune, you still around.

I'm looking for a PC based scan tool, nothing expensive or to elaborate. Just a good user friendly scan tool

    OBDScan

This is what I've been looking at, thoughts or opinions are welcome.

Damn if that does what it says for 139, id buy it in a second. I have an older Auto Xray obd 2 scanner, it cost me around 400. You can upload new codes for newercars online with mine, but for that price go for it.

    Hiya Ranger,

Still here. :) New job, so I have been sort of MIA.

Depends what you want, and how deep you want to go.

OBD-2 Vehicle Explorer Scan Tool Browser is one I have. Fairly inexpensive, and does pretty good. Sort of a steep learning curve, and one of the original PC based ones. The one you linked actually looks quite good as well for an all around. Auto Enginuity is also a choice. Lots of add ons with AE as far as specific makes. But, looking at the one you linked, it really doesn't look all that bad. Proof is in the pudding, and you won't know that till you give it a shot.

Hope things are well with you.

Too much learning curve. I'll look into Auto Enginuity a little later on. I'm just looking for something very basic and simple.

    Enjoying the new job?

Good idea. Took me a bit to get comfortable with the Peper deal. Just need to remember, with frequent downloads, that generally means that you are the beta-tester, along with everyone else. AE is OK. Sort of spendy, comparably speaking though.

New job is a change. State gig, but I still have my hand in cars. Diagnostics only though. Slow paced. Different. Hardest part about the change was moving my toolbox. Hard to see one's lifes work in a sense, on a rollback wrecker. Nervous 10 miles till it got home.

    Done with school yet?

I walk on May 10th. I am currently working on my Last Paper. I can't believe it took me 12 years to get to this point.

The second thoughts are starting to hit me, why didn't I major in computer science or something like that?

Been there. I tried all kinda crap, and kept coming back to the cars. Must just be my general make-up.

Glad it's almost over for you though. I think once you get through this last bit, you'll realize the accomplishment, then hit the floor running at full speed. And never look back. But, I don't think the music, and the art of it, will ever completely be gone.

Did the car ever act up again for you, by the way?

Have not had a car problem in a while. I like it that way. I get to concentrate on other things. The starting thing on the Mercury has not happened again, so I will take the wait and see approach (as you suggested a while back).

Rangers almost never have problems and my sons car just runs good.
