Hello everyone, a new guy here with much more enthusiasm than knowledge. I am restoring/hot rodding a 67 Chevy pickup [shaved, bagged, big hoops], anyway I have bought most of my system and will be hanging out here getting some tips, and asking a few questions. Why did I buy before I studied? Because I am too anxious! I am 37, reside in NW Montana.
Welcome to the forums. Its very nice to study this stuff before you buy it. Im about a week away to getting my system and the whole time I haven't got it I have studied up the arse. Knowing all I need in order to get this system working to its full potential. Good luck with your restoring and system project
Welcome Josh! I ve been to montana a few times myself, and it is Beautiful!!! Anything we can do to help, just ask, we will do our best!
Welcome to the forums. Stick around and you'll come to see that this forum is pretty laid back...we keep it real but like to have a lil fun here and there. Also Viking is like 90 years old!! lol
I feel kinda silly for buying my system before doing a ton of research, but here it goes; Kenwood X689 [last years model on sale local] I like the Dmask flip around face feature. Comp speakers; JL VR650-csi Comp amp; Kicker KX200.1 Subs; Ordered three JL 10w3v3s [4 ohm], received 3 -12w3v3s Sub amp; Kicker KX1000.1 Kicker Amp wire kit 05PKD1 I have applied 2nd Skin Damper [not pro] to floor, back of cab, firewall and in the doors. I will be building a box for the subs, probably sending the 12s back, can't make 2-12s fit behind the seat with it all the way back [fuel tank moved out of the cab]. See a thread about that here; http://www.caraudiotalk.com/audio-forum/showthread.php?t=5156&page=1 I also plan to build custom kick panels as I don't want to cut my doors. I have a friend that does auto electric service, he sourced me a 150amp alternator, because I have these amps to run, plus the pump for the air bag suspension. Kicker suggests a 140 amp to run that KX1000, does it really pull that hard? I have never owned an amp over 100w. So what do you think of what I bought, will this sound good in old pickup cab? And no need to sugar coat any opinions  !
Ok, here is the stuff I have bought. Kenwood KDC X689.... [06 model, on sale locally] Comps: JL VR650-csi Comp Amp; Kicker KX200.1 Subs: JL three 10w3v3-8s wired to be 2.66 ohms Sub Amp; Kicker KX1000.1 1000w at 2ohm, so what 850 or so at 2.66? Wires: Kicker 05PDK1 0/1 kit with dist. blocks. When I ordered this stuff Sonic actually sent me three 12s, but I am returning those. Had I been able to fit 2 -12s behind the seat I would have just returned the third 12, but they just won't fit. I wish the JL slim chassis subs were out because I would prefer to run my subs for 2 ohm wiring, but no biggie I guess. I applied one layer of 2nd Skin Damper to the floor, back of cab, firewall and inside the doors. I sourced a 150amp alternator to run those amps and air pump too. So what do you guys think, how will it sound in a old standard pickup cab?
sounds good...cept I hope your amp for your highs is the 200.2 not a single channel. Check out Elemental Designs SQ10 subwoofers...shallow mount subs. 300 watts rms a piece in .3 cu ft sealed.....get four of those with your amp and you'll be hitting pretty good. I bought one for my dad...sounds really nice....i like
Yes, my comp amp is 200.2 not a mono, typed that wrong. I'll check out those ED subs, thanks. So four of them is a good idea?
yeah four would would really good...if you have the room to port them they'd be even louder Sealed with .3-.4 cu ft per sub would sound good but if you can port them with 1 cu ft each and tune around 30Hz like the specs call for it'd sound even better. I am a ported box myself...I don't like the sound of sealed boxes.
