I am looking to install an Alpine amp into my 2000 Mercury Sable with the Mach sound system and 6 disc CD changer in the center console. I have no interest in changing the factory radio, just adding an amp and subs in the trunk. Is there a harness that makes this easy? I heard something about a harness that plugs into the amp in the trunk, is that true? I have installed quite a few amps, but most have been with aftermarket head units. Any help would be appreciated.
easiest way is to get a low level adapter which will branch of your rear deck speaks and give you a set of RCAs. then run your power wires and such and there you have it.
What about the remote turn on. Can I get that from the rear deck amp? Then the next problem (which I have had in the past) is that you can seperately control the subs and the rear deck speakers without crawling in the trunk to adjust the amp settings. Help?
PAC OEM 2 interface is what you want. Find an amp with a one of those mountable dials you can put up front with you if you want to be able to adjust it from there.
does that PAC unit have an remote lead on it?? if not get the trunk loc Question..is this amp for the interior speakers or for a subwoofer??? or both??
yes the OEM-2 unit has a remote lead. Its basically like a super trunk loc as it has oem amp integration and 2 sets of outputs on top of the trunk loc abilities. http://www.crutchfield.com/S-frScYY6mOn6/cgi-bin/prodview.asp?i=127OEM2
the amp would strictly be for subs in the trunk. If I use the Pac where do I tap in (at the head unit?) or can I uses the somewhat more accessible amp in the rear deck?
you can find the speaker wire right at the radio tuner in the trunk which would conceal the converter. the rear speaker wires should be L/R + gray/light blue, L/R- tan/yellow, R/R+ orange/red R/R- brown/pink (At least for the regular system, whether or not these colors will work with the mach i cant say for sure. if not just tap into the wires at the speaker) Also, im pretty sure there is an accessory wire in the power antenna harness that you can use for the remote turn on.
