I have a 760w pioneer amp 2 10" mtx blue thunder subs and a jensen bandpass box. Before the bandpass box, it sounded good on all types of music. Now with the bandpass box I get somkind of distortion when I listen to rock music. There is no problem with the subs cause they sound good and hit hard when I listen to rap but with rock it sounds awful. It never done this until I changed boxes. It mainly does it when there is a guitar strumming fast. I noticed it bad on Metallica's memory remains if this can help you any. Thanks alot
hmmmm maybe your bandpass wont play the higher frequencies.i had one and it sucked on anything except rap. it will only play up to 50hz or so.so now i use it in my home theater set up.it plays the really low bass and my other takes care of the rest. do you have any test tones to check it? http://www.realmofexcursion.com/videos.html go to downloads. make a cd and use the tones to find out how high your box goes.
well your problem is your jensen bandpass box...pretty much all prefab bandpass boxes suck balls...too small and tuned too high. I would rather build a nice ported enclosure for those subs...you have a decent amp, good subs, but a horrible box.
So after I find out the highest frequency that it will play can I cut out the higher frequencies? I have a mtx crossover that I think limits certin ranges of frequencies. It has a knob that has 400 250 150 100 and so on.
was the bandpass box built for the exact specifications for that certain sub? Or did you just buy a prebuilt one and throw a sub in there? Bandpass boxes really need to be built for each individual application or they have a tendency to tear a sub up if they are not meant for those exact sizes.
Dave...he has the JENSEN bandpass from Best Buy....this box is in no way suited for these subs...this is the sole reason the subwoofers sound like donkey ass
obviously your sub has good taste in music...it doesnt like that metallica crap. just play some good music and your problems will be no more! j.k i couldnt resist
So if I wanted to build me a set of completly sealed boxes, how would I know what size I need to build em?
go to the manufacturer's site and go to support and download the manual for that particular model. It will tell you the size boxes you should make.
Ok, so I emailed mtx for the specs for my subs. Im not sure if its the same model but they said that it would be close enough. It kinda looks old school just like my subs so I think that its right. If I could upload them and have someone translate, that would be great cause I dont know what Im looking at. Its a .pdf file, so if someone wants to look at it then email at jesiandabe11@hotmail.com and I will email it to you. Thanks.
Ok, here we go... Im gonna type everything I got... Fs 27.3Hz Vas 2.09 Ft(3) (59.21) Qts .46 Electrical Q .48 Qms 10.35 Re 3.20 Ohm Xmax .37" (9.4mm) D 8.425" (.2140m) Rms 250W Total 500W SPLO 86.8 dB No 0.24% Frequency response 27-150 hz
Specs cont'd..... Le 2.4mH Gap height .312" (7.9mm) I think, its smugged Voice coil height .961" (24.4mm) BL 10.92 TM Cms .326mm/N Mms 104.3g Mmd 100.4g Suspension losses rms 1.73 Sd 55.7in^2 (.0360m^2) Mounting diameter 9 1/16" Overall diameter 10 1/8" Mounting depth 5 1/16" Overall depth 5 7/16" Speaker Displacment (inside box) 140in^3 (2.31) Speaker Displacment (outside box) 105in^3 (1.71)
If you want an all around box that will get fairly loud while playing. I'd build a 3 cu ft box (after port displacement) Slot vent 11 in. tall by 4 in. wide and 20 inches deep/long (roughly 40 hz tuning...I like big ports )
Will it provide more thump than a sealed box? I want more bass at a lower volume, if that is possible. Will it be hard to build this box? I havent ever built one before.
