im debating whether to buy a 4ch amp to feed more power to my front and rear speakers, they can handle 80rms and 100rms but im only running them off my headunit power right now. my headunit is 54x4ch, ive read around but cant figure what feeding more power to the speakers actually do. do they increase the quality at the same listening volume but distort at the same level. or with them powered by an amp are they more stable at higher volumes? what im trying to say is, right now when i turn my hu up to 20volume it sounds loud but as soon as i go past 20 i can hear distortion from the speakers, if i put an amp will it make it so when i go past 20 theres no distortion or just change the sound of the speakers at 20 and still distort past that. sorry for the newbish question but i read around crutchfield and other car audio sites but i couldnt find an answer

Head unit sounds distorted at 20............. loud, but crappy sounding

    Add an amp.........

Set gains properly on the amp

turn head unit up to 20, speakers still start to sound ditorted......but LOUDER before you reach 20..............

Dont pay attention to the numbers on your radio too much!

You can use them for a reference, but If you add an amp, you can make the speaks sound distorted at 5 on your volume stteing!!!!!!

Adding an amp will do several things for you,

    1 make it louder
2 give you more dynamic range
3 make the sytem sound better

That 50watts x 4 coming out of your radio is a JOKE!!!! NO HU can realistically do that and sound good!!!!!!! The addition of even a quaility 50wattx4 amp will make it sound better!

one coil can only have power coming from one source...only exception is strappable amplifiers.

    All amplifiers must be grounded.

part 1- leave back speakers powered by 4 channel and leave head unit rear speakers outputs alone...taped up so nothing can short out

part 2- if the sub amp is getting a signal from a subwoofer preout, another rca cable must be ran from the head unit for full range signal.

What 600 watt rms amp is that??? sounds like it is a little overrated

A distribution block is a must if you have only one run of power wire...Atleast 4 gauge power wire. Distribution block must be fused
