Ok i need some help here. I have never had a car alarm.. have no idea what all the features are so I really need some guidance. I want an alarm for the old ranger. It has a stick shift.. manual everything pretty much. I am not looking for anything fancy. I don't know what this 2 way crap is. I just want something I can click the button .. the lights flash.. and it arms. Mainly looking for something that wont let the car start if I didnt disarm it and maybe something with a battery backup if it gets cut. I was considering doing the install myself so something basic would be good hah. Any help would be great. Just a cheap working alarm.

get a battery disconnect and hide it and install like a basic led that stays on to let people think theres an alarm.

i used to have a kill switch for my fuel pump under my old pick up.for when i went camping(would hike about a 1/4 mile to our site),or left it somewhere for a while.also had the most basic alarm from the auto parts store.cost me 50.00 8 years ago.still works to this day.had shock and current sensing.even flashed the parking lights.

i havent been able to find a basic alarm these days.most shops by me wont even sell you one without them installing it.except of course the auto parts store.

well viking there is a dealer locally that sells those units. How much do they run generally? prolly have to have them install it though if I buy through them what does install on an alarm run these days? Looking at the autopage website they have like 20 different alarms lol.

The models have changed ALOT from when i worked with them. We used to sell an RF 50 installed for about 239 if i remember right. (10 or 12 years ago)

The RF 310 is last years model, it been replaced by the RF 315. Still good equipment. The RF 315 has both horn and alarm outputs, hook up both, its really annoying when it goes off.

i have used autopage in the past and in the present. not bragging on this one just stating my certification here. i am a master nav and security specialist. which means i can read really well and answer questions. lol

i use the dei stuff. it really does not matter which one . i prefer avital or clifford but for no particular reason.they are the same.dei has bought out almost every security company that was any good other than autopage. my return rate on these units is less than 2 percent and that includes remote starts

ok I have a new item i wanted to add to the mix. I need a GOOD range on the alarm. Like I park on the roof of a parking deck next to this hopital and I want to be able to disarm it from one of the windows up on the 7th or 8th floors if it goes off. I can look out the window and see the truck easy from one of the windows. So something that will tell me when its going off and really good range.

dei has it built into the remote it actually has a lcd display and its a two way technology so it has really good range. it even show you which zone on the car is going off.

Hold the remote control under your chin when you transmit......see what happens!!!!!! it increases your range......dont believe me...try it.

it does you jawbone works as an antenna . hes not bs you. its an old trick we all learned back and the day when ungo alarms had a range of a whooping 3 feet.

EXACTLY!!!! The jawbone, or maybe even the heads bone structure aids in the transmission range.

Another option is too carry a set of stacked 15 element beams, on a tower, that should get you about 10-20 miles of range. Of course, carryin the tower might be a problem at 20 feet in height!

can you wrap the ant wire to the cars ant to extend range

No, that generally will not work, the tuning, or frequency of the alram is far different that that of your radios tuner.

The little wire that hangs out the side of some alarms which is around 6 inches or so, that is the longest the antena should be. So you would nned to solder a chenck of RG8u or similiar to the board, and extend that to the location of the antena in a more receptive area. Done that on a few systems, it helped about 50% in range on avarage. Afew units, ithink they were the old carbine sytems if i remeber right, would get about 300% range increase on average......
