i have two alpine type r 12" subwoofers want to know what kind of box to build for the loudest bass posible. im running a jl 500 amp. this is going in a new expedition so room doesnt matter. if any body knows what woul be the best cubic feet for the box that would also be great. (just want serious bass)
If they can handle it, a single or dual reflex bandpass will maximize your output. Second choice would be a vented enclosure.......
I Have A Bandpass Box And Dont Like It At All Buddy Has A Sealed Box And Sounds Way Better Anybody Heard Of The Inverted Wedge Box And If Its Any Good Any Other Sug On Boxes
If your bandpass box is a prefabricated enclosure, that is pretty much why your subs suck in it...bandpass boxes are supposed to be built to the woofer...you can't just buy a box and shove a nice sub in there and expect it to sound nice. A properly designed bandpass(single or dual reflex) can have tremendous output and sound quality within its bandwith. Type R's like big boxes and a lotta power...for what they cost they are pretty good....I like em. With the power you have I'd say go for a big bandpass or big vented enclosure...higher efficiency with the little power you have Or...what I would do is use those 500 watts on one sub and put that sub in a nice bandpass box or big vented enclosure.
Custom made to your sub???? or custom made as in he just built it??? what program did he use to design it??
Bandpass enclosures are CRITICAL in the way they are designed. The very process of designing one is not the ONLY thing that matters, musical style, loudness, the type of vehicle its in, the power of the amp, the preferred bandwisth of the enclosure...Lots to consider when building one. It aint just a simple thing..... Granted, not ALL woofers like a bandpass....but even a woofer that dont like it can perform well if its done correctly.
i am assuming you are wanting loud and somewhat accurate . a ported enclosure would be best. bandpass would loud very loud and efficient but have a tendency to get very boomy. also a bandpass box behind the 3rd seat with those 2 subs is not option.
