Can't figure out why my subs aren't hitting.

well for a while now ive been running one 12" xplod (4ohm,380rms) off of a sony xm-sd61x amp (300rms at 4ohm load, 600rms at 2ohm load). so today i decided to up it and get a box for dual 12's. so i connect these in parallel to the amp and should be getting 600rms at 2ohm load since both the subs are 4ohm voice coil right? well i go in the back and i see my woofers barely moving. so i disconnect one speaker and try it again, and it hits. So i guess maybe its the other speaker, so put that back on and dc the other one, nope that works too but when i wire them to the amp together its like theres barely any power going to them, i have no idea whats wrong. im sort of an audio newbie but shouldnt this be working? would it have to do somethign with my battery or gauge wires? im using the 800watt rockford fosgate 4gauge wiring kit

the mono amp is wired parallel internally with 2 speaker outputs. ive tried that, and tried wiring them externally but it doesnt work =\

Well...are you SURE that the two positives are together and that the two negatives are together??

Ditto on that, sounds like you have a phasing issue.

Because if they are out of phase then there will be virtually no bass

ok, aftr one more go at it ive come to this conclusion (dont bash me if its completely wrong cuz im new to the audio world),

well i took out the subs and made sure all of them were wired correctly and they were, then hooked up both to the amp again. turned on my radio and i was getting signals to the woofers just not as hard as the one woofer by itself (300rmsx1@4ohm[1woofer] compared to the 600rmsx1@2ohm[2woofers]). BUT what i DID notice was they were hitting harder than they did when i tried to hook up both yesterday. What i think is yesterday the battery didnt have as much juice in it as today (since i was driving around for around 2 hours today before i got home) and that the battery was feeding more to the amp than it was yesterday. So my conclusion is i need a new battery (im still on my stock battery, Dodge neon srt-4, if that makes any diff). I also noticed all the interior lights were dimming more when the speakers tried to hit two then when i just had one speaker hooked up. So I guess my stock battery isnt sufficient enough to power two speakers at 600rms@2ohm but its capable of powering 1 speaker at 300rms@4ohm. Does that make a difference? Im not really SURE about how the power drained from the battery to power the amp goes but isnt the 600rms double the power its trying to feed the amp then when im powering one speaker (at 300rms) ???

also please correct me if im completely off thanks =[

ive ran 900 watts rms off of the stock battery in my old little RX-7 without an issue. But, it may be worth a try to get a better battery anyways. It may be just that your alternator plain sucks and doesnt charge worth a crap. It doesnt make sense that 600 watts is dimming you that bad. Maybe your battery is old and busted. Go to autozone and get a duralast gold.. its like 70-80 bucks or so and pretty good battery.

sony subs really dont hit hard
it prob is a wire issue but really sony is a bad company when it comes to car audio..

Everything sony is overrated...sorry but they just aren't good like caddy says.

But I'm not sure if it is a battery issue...may be the alternator. 600 watts rms of sony power shouldn't pull too much current.

My friend had 1100 watts rms in his camry with a stock battery.

And yes get a duralast gold..I got one for my explorer and its a tank...for 60-70 bucks you can't beat it

Are you sure that the subs were not wired in series when both are connected together??? If not, is your amp 2 ohm stable??

    Just curious.....

If your battery is even half assed you should be able to do this:

With car off and stereo on low or med. volume....The difference between wiring one sub to the amp or two subs paralled to the amp should be noticeable.....Just remember, if it puts 300 rms to 4 ohm (one sub) and puts out 600 rms (both subs paralleled) then you should notice a difference....Not a huge difference, but it should still be louder (either way, each sub is only getting 300 watts, it is not the same as doing an A/B with one sub of 4 ohm and one sub of 2 ohm.....that would be a pretty noticeable difference...)

If you have a volt meter (a tester, not the one in the dash) Check voltage at the amp connection with each scenario....If the voltage goes way down when running both subs, you need to fix that.....Have the battery load tested...if it is good.... then alt. aint keeping up (read that...junk!)

have you done the big three?because if your wireing is not up to it then your amp can not reach its full potential.even if it is a sony.

well i have the new xplod 12" and it DOES hit hard and its not over-rated, i have no idea why people keep trash talking on sony products from the reviews on their older stuff, their new stuff is actually real good and a good bang for the buck imho. my amp does power the one sub and it knocks hard but the problem is both the subs is when they are BOTH connected they sound like 1/20th the loudness of when i hook up the ONE sub.im thinking its my alternator or something because i took rechecked my wiring 5x, and disconnected them and reconnected all wiring just to make sure they were right again. Im going to borrow a friends 2ch amp to try and power these woofers and if that works i guess ill be getting another amp (hopefully it's not the amp because i really like this amp) if it is i think im just gona buy another of the same amp and power each woofer with one amp. (its only a 200$ amp)
