they work but not always,a buddy of mine installed one on his car and would only work sometimes and the alarm went off every time he drove, like he'll be doin about 30 down the road and the alarm would just go off, so he just went out and bought a new viper alarm

 

ive had no problems with mine ive had it for a while now i got it installed at a auto temp air and sound the only thing was that they couldnt warenty it

 

Almost all alarm problems are bad installs. In 12 years I have only seen 3 or 4 "bad" alarms. All the rest of the problems have been related to install. If it falses then either the shock sensor is too sensitive or mounted in a bad spot. The only reason a shock sensor should trigger an alarm is if the window is hit with considerable force.

Next, many Ford GEM modules test themselves every 30-35 minutes or General Motors BCM's go to "sleep" occatioanally causing strange problems. Correct install procedures are important in these cars, to prevent problems.

The remote start doen't work ,why? I would be willing to bet it is installed wrong.

If a thief gets to your alarm wiring then it was not professionally installed. Did you show him where the alarm is? Do you have a sign pointing to the alarm so that it can be easily found? ALL Alarms have color coded wires. Off all the pictures of my truck on this web site, NONE show the location of the alarm.

Think like a thief, I know an installer who located his alarm module under the rear package tray. He bet me $10 that I could not find his alarm or siren and disable it, he was right. One siren was actually located in each fender.

The point is that an alarm is only as good as the installer.

I have one. Have had a few problems with it. The camera seems to be very good quality (amazing really). The instructions are not very good. Poor translation. I dont seem to be able to get the remote start working properly with the manual transmission.

Insturction book says to see their web site for details but there is nothing on their website in english except the instruciton book... grrr.

Also details like how to program the unit do not seem to be correct.

Have not had a chance to fully test the reliability of the unit in general yet... still having installation problems.

 

you really should not hook up a remote start to a manual trans anyways.can be very dangerous.

 

...thats why they have a "remote start reservation system".

Sure it has the potential to be dangerous, but cars are dangerous… should we stop driving them as well? Airbags can cause injury as well

Anyway if anyone has any idea on how to correctly use the PG8500s with remote start reservation, or can read Korean (www.caralarm.net) I would welcome some help.

 

Agreed, no one with any brains at all will put one on a standard tranny.

We sell Autopage at our shop and the top of the line model can be programmed for standard trans cars. Basically Autopage DOES NOT include these directions in the install manual. You have to call them, then they inform you that its not recommended and only then will they fax the directions for programming.

Here is how it works, if you want to remote start your standard trans car you must follow this procedure after programming.
1. Park the car and set the emergency brake and place the car in neutral.
DO NOT shut off the car.
2. Press the remote start button on the remote, turn ignition off and remove the keys.
3. Exit the vehicle (the car should still be running)
4. Arm the alarm and then press the remote start button, the vehicle will shut off

It will now remote start the next day unless the alarm is disarmed or any entry point is opened. Then the procedure must be repeated again.

My shop WILL NOT install a remote start in any standard trans car no matter what. Autopage says that they will only give out the directions to "undo" Standard Trans mode to authorized dealers but I won't bet on it.

They are smart enough not to include these directions in the owner or the install manuals. Because even with these safetys they still do not recommend it.

 

Autopage, excellent alarms......That was the main brand we sold back in the day, the RF 30 and the totally reliable RF50.....do they still use the little "tuning fork" symbol?



As for remote starts in manual cars...yes stupid....


We also sold remote starts from a company out of canada, AstroStart...made by Astro Flex if i remember right, they sold kits that allowed remote starts in manual tranny cars, they were sensors you had to mount around the shifter.....to detect neautral, along with the e brake engagement..

I still have one of there RS units.. They were an EXCELLENT unit with very good product and support (although they are a FRENCH canadian company and the tech i always talked too i couldnt understand half the time)

 

The point I was trying to make was that even with fact that you would need to exit the vehicle with it running, arm the system and then shut it down with the remote, Autopage still does not recommend installation on a standard trans car.

I makes you wonder how safe it really is.
