Now im stuck between the pioneer and the kenwood in my other post.. I really like this pioneer head unit better as far as looks, but its only 2.2 preamp.. Thats not to good is it? It has the same RMS and max watt as the kenwood so i dont understand why its so much lower amps.

yep, 2.2 volts on the preamps.........It means this basically, you got 2 volts of power to feed into your amps, as opposed to whatever the kenwood kicks out, higher is better for the most part, but in all reality, if you do a good clean and proper install, it will work fine......i installed HU's with .3 and .6 volts of output all the time years ago with no problems.......This is more of mrketing hype than one HU being better than the other.......

In a SQ system, yes, this is critical for keeping the noise floor to a minimum, but for day to day users, NOT an issue.......

    Here...costs less....has 4 volt preouts...and is better.

The regular Pioneer decks have a bad ground circuit something. Bad feedback, alternator whine, and turn on thumps.

The Premiers are less prone to this and have better grounding

I just bought a JVC HU KD-G820....I had it three weeks....It has 2 v. sub pre-out.....My son wanted the exact same unit...I second guessed myself and sold him mine and bought an Eclipse. It has 5 v. pre-out.....To be perfectly honest, I think I mad a mistake....I put the Eclipse in last night....So far my first impression is that I do not like it.....I am only running the stock frt. and rear speakers right now, but I was much happier all the way around with the JVC.....

My biggest point.....Go and listen to these, put your hands on them.....I wish I had.....

if you are running an Eclipse HU to power your speakers.. its not the best. Only runs about 14-17 rms if i remember right. The Eclipse HU shine with amp set ups from all the ones ive heard.

    Dave...

As far as my frt. & rear speakers, they sound good...Maybe a touch less sparkle...The sub seemed to have better low bass extension when running off of the JVC's sub out, versus the Eclipse...The JVC had 2 v. pre and the Eclipse has 5 v.....On this Eclipse unit, is there a way to make the display just stay still and not scroll and keep spelling out Eclipse? I gotta figure out how to get the clock set and on the display too.....My biggest gripe are the knobs....Nothing to really grasp and turn (and I do not have big hands) The rotary knob for changing tracks on CD is a pain in the ass...Very easy to jump past the next track (the remote will help this) and at night, none of the buttons at the bottom are lit.....Hard to see where the hell you push to change a radio station....Now granted, I have spent about an hour with this thing and 45 minutes was driving to work this morning....I know I can tweal the sound and figure out the display, etc.....But It seems like they would get a lot of complaints about the styling and funcion of the knobs....

    I dunno.....

man willy im sorry you are having trouble with the thing. I personally had to mess with the setting a while before I had it perfect. But each person has their own opinion about things. I feel bad because I was the one who recommended that HU lol. For me its been real nice to me. Maybe its the way my interior is but I don't really have any issues with the interface but it could be because the center dash is actually angled to the driver and right in my reach.. i dunno man lol. If i could go to your house I would help ya set it up but I doubt you are in my area heh.

Not quite right. All manufactures float the audio shield above grould to prevent noise, the problem with the Pioneer is that the device they use is easily destroyed.

The fix is really simple, remove the shorted device and replace it with a 1-ohm resistor. All your problems go away. If I remember (I have one at my shop) I'll take a pic and show you what needs to be replaced.

The problem only happens with questionable installs. And this problem has only surfaced a couple of years ago. And it is still a problem with upper line current production Pioneers including Premiers. Lower models use different isolation and are immune.
