Alright well im getting my first system and i need a little help picking it out and understanding a few things. Ive been looking around for a week now and i been thinking about getting a single 12" Kicker Baric L7. Is this a good sub? I was also looking at the 12" Kicker Dual CompVR sub package and i was wondering what setup is louder, more reliable, and better sounding. I know nothing about amps i dont want to spend over 200$ on an amp whats a good amp for these subs?

Well if theirs a better choice for the same price range from what i listed please let me know. My budget is 650$ for subs, amp, deck, speakers. I plan on buying off ebay because everythings alot cheaper.

Also what is OHM? Whats the difference between 2 and 4?

    Thanks guys

650 is not enough for EVERYTHING you want.. you have a very very cheap system if it was any less.. with my setup it costed around 775, thats a alpine 9856 HU, 4 gauge wire, cap, 2 15's and a 900.1 amp. and thats as cheap as i could find with still sounding awsome.if you only bought 1 L7 and a amp only big enough for the 1 sub then you might be able to get all of it at 650

Well if i bought an L7 it would only be one. What i was asking is one L7 any good? Better than 2 12" CompVR's?

Another thing i want to know is, If i buy an amp thats to big will they blow my subs? I been looking at them Kenwood amps i just dont know what size to get.

Also im buying an MP3-3160R deck for 65$ brand new on ebay plus im going to buy some cheap speakers.. So most my 650$ budget will go into subs and amp.

Um...I would go with one L7 in nice ported box power but a Kenwood KAC-9102D....Also ohms is impedance. A cap is not needed...its a waste of money

Read up on here www.bcae1.com You'll learn a lot from this site

A couple things you mentioned, Ithought I would comment on.....

First....You said you wanted: 1. loud 2. cheap 3. awesome

Unless your opinion of awesome is completely different than mine you won't be able to get all three of those......If you want #1 and #2, you can get that.If you want #1 and #3 you can't have #2.....I am not talking about competetion quality when I say awesome exactly....If you have a system based soley on loud subwoofer/cheap ass other speakers, you may get loud and cheap but not much else...

You can typically get a pretty decent sound from a stock HU and speakers and add a nice sub and amp....but....You are not gonna match the fidelity of a nice sub and amp with a factory HU and speakers...If you buy a nice HU and some nice speakers and run off HU and run a sub off a nice amp, you can approach having an excellent sound, but without getting a nice clean amp to really push the speakers (other than sub) your dynamic range and fidelity of the WHOLE system will be less than it should be.....

If you are looking for awesome sound, think about the WHOLE system...Think about reproducing ALL frequencies in the spectrum equally and at a high quality rate, unless you just want average to sub average music from 200hz and up and very loud music from 200hz and down.....

Just my thoughts on the subject....

Thanks aznboi3644 i read everything on that site, im not going to be installing my system. It tought me a few things but i still have no idea how to pick out an amp or subs.

Willy im not looking for the best system in the world or nothing i know im not going to get much for 650-700$.. I just want to the find the BEST system for that kind of money.

My friend has Pioneer TS-W306C 12's with a cheap ass 800 watt amp and a sealed basic box. Its loud, sounds like ****. So ill use this to compare to, i know i can find a better system than his for my price range.. Would ONE L7 be louder or just as loud as that setup, and i hope to god it sounds better. Them pioneer subs are like 70$ each. The reason i want the one L7 because its a much more expensive sub and its kickers top of the line sub besides the competition 5000watt sub. I'm hoping this means better quality?

Say i buy the single L7 what amp should i buy for this sub for under 200$.. Also should i buy 4 OHM or 2 OHM L7

OK.....what you just said makes much more sense to me....You are trying to get the best sound you can on the budget you have....That is as fair as fair can be.....

I have a JL Audio 10w6.....I have it mounted in a Q custom enclosure that sits under the rear seat of my truck....I love the sound I am getting from it. Right now I just have it running off of two bridged channels of my 4 chan. Blaupunkt amp....Probably have about 200 watts. rms available to the sub. I just bought one of these:

    http://cgi.ebay.com/NEW-KENWOOD-KAC...5QQihZ008QQcategoryZ79828QQrdZ1QQcmdZViewItem

and it should be sitting on my porch when I get home from work today...It is probably a little big power-wise for how I am gonna be running it, but I figured more headroom will give me better, more dynamic sound....

Originally I was gonna just buy a decent sized two channel amp and bridge it, but I decided after recommendations at this site, that I would buy a mono class D amp...One that should drive this sub with power to spare and less THD versus a two channel amp bridged....And if I decided later to get more sub, I can upgrade and not have an amp that just gets by...

If you buy that sub and it is a dual voice coil, I would get dual 4 ohm....If it is a single voice coil, I would get a 2 ohm if possible....Buy an amp like this one (or something similar) and it should push that sub with some authority...

At least that is what I would do....

Thanks willy thats the kind of responses im looking for! From the looks of it i think i will go with that kenwood 915 class D amp, everyone seems to recommend this amp.

The L7 comes with duel high temp voice coils. Is that good?

So i will beable to run that kenwood amp with the L7 4OHM no problems? Im going to have a professional install it but this amp wont overpower my sub and blow it right if installed correctly? And if i get this amp down the road i can always pick up a second L7 and have enough power..

you'll be surprised what the right sub in the right box will do. I once tested out that 8inch kicker square sub. Run by a planet audio 200x1 and it sounded just as loud as a JL 12inch w1. So really. just be sure to follow the manufactures specs for RMS and box size, you'll be happy with what you spend your money on.

Just go with the 1 L7. I have had this sub for quite some time, mine is a dual 2 ohm coil sub wired in a 1 ohm load. Its being pushed by a Hifonics BX 1205D amp at 1 ohm. It really pounds. I got my amp off of ikesound for 175. It pounds all day without even getting warm. Just something for you to consider.
