Alright i have a 1973 chevy pickup single cab. Right now i'm in the process of restoring it. Along with paint and all that stuff I want a nice system. I want to put 2 10's in it behind the seat. I'm not sure of the dimensions other than i've got about 8 inches depth at the bottom of the seat and then it tapers up. Any ideas or suggestions for subs and an amp?

Not a whole lotta room really. But it can be done. I would suggest some 8 inch drivers behind the seat, either 2 or better yet 4. 8 inch drivers take up ALOT less room and volume requirements are not as huge. Being how this is an ol chevy truck, and you are restoring it, I would imagine that it will be rather loud in the engine and exhaust dept. !!!!! So I would like to see at least 300 watss minimum to the subs in order to really let the sound come through. 4 quality 8 inch drivers being run by a quality amp will really get quite loud in the sub bass region....

I never even thought about 8's do you guys think they really would sound as good as 2 10's

Why wouldn't it??? You'd be surprised by the sound....I doubt you'll be dissappointed

Elemental Designs makes some really good 8 inch woofers...as all their other subs are awesome also.

four 8 inch subs WILL outperform 2 10 inchers, all things being equal.....

no way stick with 10's!!! 300 to 500 watt subs. that way youll need less mountin depth. and just get an angled truck box. or 2 single truck box's and slide them under the seat. its cake! ive hooked up over 200 car audio systems. 8's dont hit like other subs the quality of the sound sucks. if you want ill draw ya out a diagram. just let me know

Less mounting depth???????Last time i checked, 8 inch drivers are not as big around as 10 inchers, thereby enabling the magnetic structure to be placed lower in the box so as to allow maximum clearance for the seat to go back all or most of the way....But hey, maybe all those years I did high end car audio systems didnt teach me anything!!!!!

Another thing I must not have learned according to yur post is that 8 inchers have crappy sound quality....wow, wonder how some of those systems i did using 8's won trophies?????

Just curious here, where did i go wrong?

uakaos, if you say you've installed over 200 systems and you think 8 inch subs sound like crap than either your crazy or don't know what sound quality is...sorry but its the truth

yeah these guys know there stuff.even i have a story about a system with 4 8s.
they were running off of an old PPI amp.900watts mono in the back of an 86 supra.super tiny box.BIG ass bass.
put the rich boy from down the block to shame.he had 2 12's in his trans am.all orion.(sorry vic) but those mtx's put him to shame.

**** i heard 1 8 in the back of a geo storm with 80 watts hit harder and deeper than 2 10's.

it's all in the box baby!
