Ok I am thinking about trying a new idea for placement of my sub. First of all, this is a 1993 Lincoln Mark VIII. Second of all, it's never going to be sold so I could care less about resale value.. second it dies it becomes a parts car for another Mark VIII. My idea is to mount the sub in the center of the rear seat so it fires into the cabin. Now, some of the methods that come to mind are just mounting it against the back of the seat and hollowing out sort of a tunnel to the sub which doesnt seem like it would sound right. Or perhaps making a tube to place it in and having it mounted flush with the rear seat leather and place a good grill over it to protect it.. prolly have the back of the tube open to a box to give it more air space. Think I need about 1.25ft of cubic air for a sealed application.. max size that is. Any help with this would be great as far as ideas and what I need to do.. I know it has to have been done plenty of times.
well this idea is a no go because i just tore the back of the trunk area off and there is a nice thick piece of sheet metal and electrical wiring between the trunk and back seat ... oh well.
An IB under the rear deck would do OK, but a bandpass firing through the rear deck would be truely the way to go........The most efficient, the most economical, and the best sounding.....And with the vent firing through the deck, and off the window, should make for a really nice deep, tight sound............Or just duck tape it to the hood and let the hood vibrate really bad till it falls off the car.....nah, scratch that last idea.....
how about would I design it to fire into the cabin? not sure what that would look like? Besides using less space is there any advantage to using the IB set up? Like sound wise IB vs ported vs sealed? I have no objections for cutting holes on the rear deck lol. Plus I know the infinity perfects are suited for free air use.
First and foremost, an IB set up very critical in one thing, sealing off the cabin from the trunk... I have done some INCREDIBLE systems doing an IB set up.....But they were not your typical seal a board up to the rear deck type thing, the way I did it took 3 days minimum....the sub bass extension was simply KICK ASS..... The average way that most IB set ups are installed yeilds OK bass. Tends to be lacking in the lower registers, and wont get all that loud. If you wanna do it, and do it RIGHT, let me know..... OVerall, between the sounds of a properly built IB, sealed or vented or bandpass design, Thye can ALL sound good, but like we always say, its all in how its done....
I see viking.. maybe you can help me build a ported box for my 12 that will actually fit in my trunk as mine current box is too tall. Or if someone wants to actually build me one id pay for it.
