Ive got a 73 standard bug. Im trying to set up an ipod system in the car so I dont even have a head unit. I have a passive EQ, and a crossover I can use. A small Cadence VA300 and a monster JL-500.1 are my two amps I have at the moment. Im wanting to put the subs in the REAR compartment area right above the motor behind the back seat. I was thinking of using the cadence amp for a pair of 6x9s and mounting them under the dash. I was thinking some sort of single sub in a 5th order bandpass might fit and be ok. I want some quake in this machine. Im currently seeking a small 4-way amp for the highs. Maybe im looking at this wrong.. any suggestions? ipod, passive eq, crossover, cadence va300, jl500.1 thanks in advance
First step would be to get a HU. Check out sounddomain or crutchfield and browse the selections to see what you like.
I have done one 8 inch woofer in a single reflex bandpass in the very spot you are reffereing too....I dont remember all the particulars, i think it was an 8 inch RF punch (circa 1992) The result was decent bass at all volume levels. I cant for the life of me remember what the hell i installed for the front end speakers....or the amp..... I will say this though, dont get carried away too much with big power thirsty amps in that thing, the "alternator" Dont put out much over what the car needs to run!!!!
if all you want is the ipod then buy a headphone to rca connector and plug it to the input on the eq.then wire up your system.just make sure to match the volume from the ipod to the input to the eq,and to set your gains properly. that should work.does your eq have a master vol on it?
This eq isnt all that, but I like it. Its a profile PEQ-720, little cheapy, but It sounds surprising(NOT A REFURB) 7-Band Passive EQ, Electronic Crossover, Subwoofer Level Control Fader EQ Band on/off and a sub on and off button. 80Hz/120Hz on the sub filter. Unfortunately, I still have the generator, and was gonna buy an altenator for it. Its already a 12volt system. So the altenator(not generator) is not enough for a good size amp? HMMM.. damn VW guys told me "oh yeah, get an altenator and everything will be fine" lol.. anyways,... thanks for the heads up.
