Depth Charge 10" subs...

Ok, I have 2 of these older Fultron Depth Charge 8 Ohm subs in a box with a
Depth Charge amp rated at 200 watts max. Very minimal ratings information on the amp or speakers. But after some digging, I discovered the amp is 100 watts RMS, 160 watts RMS bridged.

What I am wanting to do is get a little bigger amp for the 10's and use the Fultron amp I have for the door speakers.

But, I can't figure out how much the subs can take...even though this stuff is a few years old and not real expensive top-shelf gear (don't scoff I sez),
I'd still rather not blow it up. Speakers that is.

So, how much bigger a sub amp could I get away with here if any I am wondering...maybe just around 300 RMS...anybody got any advice? Besides the obvious, "Get better speakers" :)? -Preciate it

i wouldent recomend going over 160 watts to each sub.:) 300 wat mono amp would work for those.

I'd say a stereo amp and bridge it...mono amp pushing 300 watts at 4 ohms is gonna cost more than a stereo amp

I think you would be safe with an amp capable of around 250 watts per sub, of CLEAN power, Better to drive a speaker with a little too much clean unclipped power than not enough clipped and distorted power. Thats the reason alot of subs blow chunks. Quality 500 watt amp when run at 4 ohm mono will do just fine.........

500 watts, really? Ok then...that sounds reasonable. Anybody blow a speaker, and what are the warning signs to listen for ha....I guess at least doubling the power would make for a clear difference in volume wouldn't it? Or no?

Why do some people I've heard say, "A 10 inch basses better than a 12"? Is this some kinda myth or does it really depend on the circumstances?

Those people you have heard from are idiots who think they "know their sh!t"

Don't listen to them...Warning signs?? Um...smell of voice coil...no more sound...major cone distortion...if the sub is built tough there are almost no warning signs...they'll just fry

    hey.hey..hey. im not an idiot.

anyway yeah when you blow a sub it either locks(doesnt move). sound like a marraka(spl). and smells like a rubberish burning smell.

    So if it's more like a castanet, I'm cool then:D ...

I'm bidding on a used Rockford Fosgate 550S Power series amp right now,
and it's about to end. How much is one of these realistically worth used, plus 10 bucks shipping? The seller "guarantees" no DOA....

Oh yeah, plus it's one of the really old styles that's in the squared off not rounded case

Those old school Rockfords are bullet proof

Still a little worried I might blow my subs with this amp, 500W RMS seems like kind of a lot...

guess starting out with the gain low would be a smart idea

is that a 2ch amp?if so then run those subs in stereo at 8ohms each.then they will only get half of the reated output of the amp.

I have that same power 550s amp, it is a small chassis and builds a ton of heat make sure you install it in an area that has a lot of air flow otherwise it will shut down. The sound quality was good and it hit ok esp for the size of the amp.

So the amp got here...not bad, pretty good shape...no end caps or bass remote...but I know for a fact it has been repaired...blown channel...guy gives me 30 day warranty on it

But 211 dollars for a used one? I don't know, seems kinda steep...

Maybe be better off getting a new rf punch amp with more warranty for about the same money? Sending the other one back to the guy?

Shyt if its been repaired cuz of a blown channel i'd send that biatch back and get this one

    http://www.onlinecarstereo.com/CarAudio/ProductDetail.aspx?ProductID=14933

I've had this amp wired at 1 ohm mono (even though only 2 ohm stable) on two 15 inch kicker L7s...not my subs but a friend's subs I was using cuz he had no amp...and it didn't even shut down or sound like sloppy butthole...sound good to me for what it was trying to do...I just set the gain carefully.

This is one tough amp...and for this price you can't beat it

Yeah man, that one looks pretty happenin...I saw that one when I was looking at the Best Buy site...

You think it beats a RF though? Thought those were the SHIITE

But hell yeah, I'm sending that ho back to that dude and getting something else irregardless...really didn't know it'd been busted till after I'd won it

Well...the quality is pretty good...well I'll say that these Kenwoods are very durable because I've put one through hell and back...The amp will never blow up...just shuts down for a few seconds when too hot to not enough current.

But this amp is afforable and would allow expandability for future upgrades.

The 9102D puts out close to rated power...friend of mine had the same amp at 4 ohms on two 12L7's and it beat off pretty hard
