Ok, I'm getting a $700 bonus check in a week and I'm wanting to put a system in my 87 camaro. I've had my eyes set on MBquarts for highs ever since I got my first car, but people have also suggested Diamond or JL Audio for highs. The MBquarts I was looking at are from the Reference Line and online run about $150 a pair for the components, so I'm wondering what JL audio or Diamond speakers are similar in sound quality, price, etc as the reference line MBquarts (RCE RVF). What kind of amp setup should I run, I'm willing to wait on the subs for now, in order to get better quality highs. But i was advised to run a 4channel amp and a mono amp. What kind of amp should I get? the speakers I was looking at are about 70 watts RMS. What kind of subs should i get, I saw some MTX thunder 10"s for cheap and they are dual voice coil rated at 225 watts RMS. anyways thats all I can think of now, tips welcome.
First and foremost, I never suggest ANY speakers. why, cuase what i think sounds good, sounds like crap to someone else.....and what sounds good to your buddy, sounds like dog crap to the guy in the car with a different brand of speakers.... I am so tired of this!!!!!!! LISTEN to the speakers you want to buy!!!! dont let someone else tell you what sounds good!!!!!!!! AAAAAAHHHH!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! let YOUR ears decide what is best!!!!!!! As far as an amp goes. again, lots of good ones. I suggest that you get as big as an amp you can afford, especially in a camero. the cabin gain from the subs will be intense. As a matter of fact if you want a sound quality system, over say a boom boom rap crap system, i would push more power into the highs than i woiuld the subs. say 200 watts per channel to the highs and 200 watts to the sub, would make a nice system.... Sub bass in a camero is too easy to make, you need some power in your highs to let them keep up..... as far as a 2 or 4 channel amp, and say a dedicated mono amp for the subs......whatever.....If it was me......I would go with a 4 channel amp. Run it as a 2 channel on your highs, then down the road, add a sub to it and run it 2 channels on the highs and the other 2 channels mono on the sub (s).... then later put a seperate a,p on the sub and put the 4 channel amp back onto your highs in 2 channel mode.... this would be a wise, quality sounding system without breaking the bank Yes, I am a car audio god.
re: me I was already planning on investing more money/work into my highs than to my subs, but i still wanna bump when need be. Wouldn't running 4 speakers on 2 channels cause me loss of control over front/rear balance, thus limiting my control over proper adjustment of the positioning, and wouldn't if i got 2 225Wrms apiece subs attempting to run both of them on as little as 200 watts cause them to blow out more easily if i do crank them up to play alittle rap? I want some control as i listen to many types of music, i want to be able to bump my rap with alotta bass, but listen to my acoustic stuff with utmost clarity. and I want a system that may endure untill my next car as well. and how do I listen to speakers before I buy, most stores i goto don't carry the higher end stuff i'm looking for, as well as the store not having the same music/cabin area that I will be listening to. I'm also looking for some brand/model suggestions on amps as I have no idea where to start
You will never damage a woofer by underpowering it...the end...no more discussion on that Look for high sensitivity instead of high power handling for the power you have Amps?? I'll go ahead and say what Viking will say...any of the old school Orion HCCA amps...also old school rockford amps are bullet proof also. If you want utmost sound quality with some power...look into this amp http://www.eclipse-web.com/amp/xa4000.html Or this amp http://www.eclipse-web.com/amp/xa5000.html
That amp would work fine. In your first post it sounded like you wanted just one set of components for your car, you did not specifically so TWO sets. But none the less, what i presented earlier will work just fine, just run your highs in 4 channel mode. Then when you get a sub, run it off the 2 rear channels and the highs off the front set of outputs. if you are worrying about balancing front to rear, get some attenuation circuits for the rear seakers to quiet them down abit. very simple. Unless of course you have all kinds of money and want to do it different.
Sorry Azn....gotta disagree with you on your first line of info there...... You can easily toast a speaker with an amp that puts out far less power than what the speaker is rated for.. I have done it and seen it done a hundred times. Rmember that thing i have spoken of called "clipping" an amp?
Ok Viking....I correct my statement...There is no way a woofer can be damaged by too little CLEAN power...no clipped signal Damnit happy now??? lol
