This started in another forum (Square sub shootout) but I wanted to start a new one so that more people will respond. I want a system with strictly 8'' subs but I want it to hit as hard as possible.. I want it to surprise people when they find out that I only have 8"s but I want to do this for around $150.. I have a Pioneer 760 watt 2 channel amp and I can build my own box.. So my question is: How many 8's do I need? and what are some good brands to look for? Thanks

I built a single sub band pass box 2 years ago that has an old 8" JL W0 and it was slanted in the middle of the box with a window on one side and a huge ass port on top back and that thing was fukin loud an bassy as hell an sounded really good in my mustang but now it sits in my living room wired up to the stereo with other spekers ive built an sometimes my nieghbors call me up to turn it down cause it is heard on the other side of my nieghborhood most times but man the thing is loud
plus it was 600 watts and if it was to loud it would go out of phase also

This wiring wouldn't sound good...the power distribution wouldn't be equal.

Correct me if I am wrong...but I'm sure I'm right

    I believe you are correct.

Says you can wire all three in parallel would give him a 1.33 ohm impedance. I'm not sure if that amp is rated for that low. He might could try it though...

There is no way his amp will handle that low of an impedance

    specs are
380 watts rms bridged 4 ohms
    190x2 rms 2 ohms
    125x2 rms 4 ohms

I would look for 4 of the mast efficient subs you can find, put them in either a ported or bandpass enclosure. That is the best method, period..... dont worry about xmax (high excursion), as long as they handle 200 watts each, and by god, dont buy them cause of the size of the magnet!

I have spoken the truth, this is the way..........

The reason I am saying to go with 4 is due to the fact he will get the most gain if they are close coupled and in an efficient box. His amp wont push many of those 8 inchers to the full xmax. so why try? go with four, limited excursion subs of lower power handling, and higher efficiency, and push those to the limits. that will achiefve the greatest spl.

If I remeber right, 2 XTR 6 inchers, sealed volume was about.7 cubic feet, the vented volume was about .4 cubic feet, tuned to 75 Hz with two 2 inch ports. (single reflex bandpass) it was run on a new Jensen amp (back in 94', was a rep tryin to get us to sell his stuff, told him to let me try out his best amp) was about 300 watts. the box sat in the trunk of my ol dodge aspen.fired up through the rear deck. I metered it for the hell of it cause i thought it hit like a motherphucker, showed up as 131 dB (if I remeber right) on the audio control blast mic........Thats two 6 inchers folks.......on a cheap amp......small speakers can do awesome things in the right box....and when the transfer function of the vehicle is used to maximum potential......

shyte i miiss those days of playin with boxes and subs!!!!
