Well I'm in the market for a new sub and I'm thinking of going square.. but everybody has Kicker's so what should I do? Has anyone ever heard any of the Hifonics square subs such as the Atlas or Zeus? or the Hart EKG series? or any other square subs?

I've heard the crappy Lanzar Max DVC square sub...my cousin (girl who knows nothing about car audio) had one...I set it up for her...got it to sound halfway decent.

Why do you wanna go square??? There isn't a big difference between square and round speakers...besides the fact that circle speakers are capable of higher excursions.

If you do want to go square I'd suggest Kicker...tried and true...Plus they just plain look a whole lot better and sound better than other squares...my opinion

Whats wrong with kicker. i have a L7 12 inch and it hits like crazy and sounds good doing it. Are you saying you dont want it because its a popular brand?? Buy what you want to buy because YOU want it.

Hey I absolutly love Kicker.. It's amazing how hard they pound and clean they sound. But as much as I love them I can't stand the fact that everyone who opens their trunk or back hatch around here has an L7 sittin there.... I want to go square just for something different and after hearing Kickers but I was just wondering if anyone had heard/used any of the other brands of square subs before I buy a Kicker.

personally, the only Quality woofers out there that are square are Kickers. They seem to have the idea down pretty good. I really dont know of any other brand out there that would even approch the level of quality that kicker puts into them. Not that kicker is the grreatest thing in the world, but they do a fine job. I would have to say stick with those who know..... the other brands out there seem to be nothing more than el' cheapos.

Well...You can stand out from the rest by making your setup fully custom...go crazy.

Build yourself a bigass sick box while everyone else has the cheap piece of crap prefab boxes...It's always a gaurantee that a custom box built to the woofer will sound better...so go for it

yeah.. I've always wanted a sweet a@@ custom box with a nice amp rack and stuff and maybe that time will come soon but as of right now I just want to find a unique sub that nobody has in my area.. that's why I was asking about the Hifonics and Hart squares.. time will tell I guess

So basically your buying subs to impress others?? unless ist a show car and on display all the time who cares. Only you because you are paying for them.
Buy the kickers and you can build a plexiglass ported box and put some back lighting or mirrors or whatever. The kickers sound great, I know because I actually own one of their subs. I listen to it every day and listen to all kinds of music, Rock, hip hop, jazz, classical and it performs well with all music. Its certainly not the best sub out there,im not saying that, but if your interested in square subs do go with the kickers, and who cares what everyone else thinks, buy them because you want them.

I just gotta say I love my Kicker L5 12". It hits hard and clean. I've got plans of getting another one and then get a custom box made for them. I just hope my amps don't get to hot when I put them in the trays that are on the box. Oh well...it'll be awhile before this happens anyways. I would say definately go with Kicker if you want a square sub. Supposedly Kicker copy righted the square sub so no other can make them. I think it was on their site that said that. I dunno, you could always get the Solo-X if you want a real thumper square. :D

I'm not saying I don't like Kicker or that I wouldn't want one.. I was just wondering if anyone had heard any other brands of square subs.. one of my buddies is a hardcore Kicker guy and to him there isn't anything better and I'd love nothing more than to find a different brand like the Hifonics Atlas or Hart EKG square sub and knock his socks off.. get my drift? like I said I think Kickers are sweet but I would like a different brand to show people (especially my buddy) that you don't need a Kicker to be square..

Ok, I get what your saying. Hopefully you can find a good quality one that'll show your friend up. Though I don't know how likely that would be. Good luck with your quest to find another square sub with good quality. Sorry I couldn't be of help.

    why sq. subs???????

Instead of stomping ass with something similiar, go a different route!!!!!

Use some 6 inch woofers in a bandpass box that rips your face off!!!!

Maybe make a box with nothing but 4 inch woofers, about 36 of them, arranged in a square fashion!!!!!

Get creative!!! Dont join the club!!!!!!!!! do something diffeent

I sis a system years ago that had 8) 8 inch orion xtr's in the back of a full size blazer, all run off a 225 HCCA. they were in a large vented enclosure, actually 4 sperate ones, anyway, the damn thing was phenomanol in its ouput and low frequency extension.

The keyboard you are using to type on includes things called periods. comas, and other little things that create a sentance, now yes, my spelling sucks, but I am drunk, what your excuse?

Why do they even make a square sub???? i mean really....just to be differnt? just to use up more surface area in a given space?

I dont really care actually....they can keep the square subs... the sound I hear is round in its waveform, and so that means i dont hear anything from a square sub.......????

Ok, maybe not......to hell with square subs anyway...I have no use for them other than for target practice with my SKS......they make one hell of an frag fest when hit with a FMJ round...

then there are your circular shaped subs, why do we have them in a circle???? OH YA!!!!! its a stable and strong design that has less cone breakup and better excursion...along with a cheaper to manufacture die and cost.....

TO HELL WITH SQUARE SUBS!!!! GIVE ME A CIRCULAR SUB OR GIVE ME DEATH!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! or at least a one night stand with Paris Hilton, skanky as she is, she is still HOT!!!!!!!!! and i would not hesitate to do her....what were we talking about??????
