Hi Just passed my test a few weeks ago, and have got a "hand-me-down" car, my brothers old Fiat Seicento (pretty poor I know but it gets me from A to B I guess!). Anyway.. The current sound system is pretty awful quality. I have the stock fiat front speakers, and some Pioneer rear shelf-mounted speakers, which are linked up to the cheap Grundig cassette/radio. Then I'm running my ipod into one of those cassettes which allows playback via the tape player.. Crap I know So I'm looking for a new CD player which will hopefully give me better quality. I dont need perfect audio but I'd like something a lot better than what I have now, but dont know where to start. I heard from a friend that even a cheap cd player and a decent amp will sound good, but I have no idea where to start and even less of an idea about how to hook it all up Not really looking for a big sub or anything like that (no space in the boot as it is!) Cheers for any help
I hope this will help!!! Hi, www.techronics.com/index.cfm?fuseaction=product.display&product_id=3599 Click on this link, I Promise it wont disappoint you... Their very good i bought my head unit from them and it was fast and easy...
Sorry, I forgot to put my location as UK, I cant buy from there. However I'm guessing that model is still available in the UK. Will that work with what I have now? I will upgrade the speakers in time but I'd like something that will work pretty much straight away then I can build upon it if that makes sense..
If you want I'll sell you my Eclipse CD5000 head unit. Its brand new, I have had it for about 2 months. I love it, but i need MONEY! lol Anyway, look up the specs online, but its got three 8volt preouts.. which means no distortion and lots of power when you turn the volume up. I'll sell it for 500usd plus shipping.
8 Volt preouts??? To buy an amp that can handle that would cost a pretty penny...and looks like this kid is on a budget
Well, just throwing it out there. lol, I'm just running a alpine 240, and it sounds clear as hell. The only reason I don't want it anymore, is cuz i need to save up for an indash navigation unit.
Yeah I am on a budget, I have other things that also need money going into (guitar and bike!). Probablyt the most I really want to spend is £80 which probably wont get me much, I think thats the equivalent of around $150usd. Been looking on ebay, found a "H+B CA-4545" for a good price that looks ok but whats the quality like? On the description the guy says "plays mp3 discs so you can cram hundreds of songs on one disc".. how do I go about making a disc like that? Just like a data disc with the stuff on or what? Normally I can only fit about 15 songs on a standard cd-r..
Ah cool, I thought it may be. Cheers for all the advice guys. I went into Halfords yesterday (not exactly the best place but they have the speaker testing rig thing) and to my ears, I preferred the sound of the Alpine SXE-1025s speakers, which I will probably get for my front speakers, then upgrade the rear Pioneer ones to something better when I have the money
Pioneers are a good start for speakers...A good front stage is what you should look for...Alpine makes some great speakers. Alpines in the fronts and Pioneers in the rear is a good setup...no need to get better ones for the rear. My first system consisted of 5.25 pioneers all around and two 10 inch bazookas in a sealed box...that was like 2 years ago...I still miss that system....so simple but it sounded SOO BALANCED and smooth...
Ok cool cheers! I still need to get a cd player, wont be for a while though as someones got into my bank account and took some of my money so I need to get it all sorted and hopefully get a refund! I forgot to ask, what in terms of wattage outputs is best for a standard setup? Most I've seen are 4x45w, is that good for most setups? Whats different in terms of wattage, as I've seen some cheaper ones that are like 4x7w or something, does that just mean it'll have less headroom and breakup/distort earlier than ones with more wattage?
Um...basically most head units are listed at 50x4....but that number is of no importance because that is the max rating...most head units have an rms output of between 16-25 watts rms
exactly...look for the "RMS" ratings...means Root Mean Square...not sure what that means but basically is the continuous output Those peak ratings are tested while hooked up to a 100 amp power supply and 100 car batteries while being struck by lightning....thats how head units can be rated at 200 watt decks!! lol
