In the next couple of weeks I will be putting all of my stereo components in my truck. I wanted recomendations on exactly should I be running this system off of. I have two amps, a Hifonics Brutus 2000 watt and a MTX 280 watt 2 channel. The Hifonics will be pushing two Alpine type R 10" woofers. The MTX will be running two sets of components, Infinity Kappa 6.5's with tweeters and Infinity Kappa 4x6's with tweeters. The head unit is a Pioneer 7800MP with the Pioneer Sirius plug in. It will all be going into a 2002 Chevy Z71 extra cab Questions: Should I upgrade my Battery? I have been told I should at least upgrade the stock power and ground cables. What gauge wire should I run in and what gauge should I run to each amp? Do I need a capacitor? Any other suggestions?
I would run the 4.6's off the head unit and leave the amp to power the components only. Yes upgrade your big three with no less than 4 gauge (won't hurt if you go any bigger)...my dad has a 2000 Z71 and the stock wire coming off of the alternator is like 10 gauge... Upgrade your wires from -Alt to battery -Battery to chassis -Engine block to chassis You don't have to remove the stock wire just run another set...the wire coming off of the alternator is a little run of 10 gauge or something to a block...you can just replace that little wire with a run of 4 gauge and then run another full length cable from the alternator to the battery. Gauge of power and ground wires?? -I'd do nothing smaller than 4 gauge Cap?? -forget about it...won't help much Any other suggestions?? -make sure you fuse the wire from the alternator to the battery -remove fuse from power wire or remove battery ground when hooking up amps and installing
Just get a good quality battery with the highest amp/hour rating you can fit in the thing, Dont go by Cold cranking amps! But remember, the battery DOES NOT run your truck and its accessories the ALTERNATOR does, keep this in mind at all times!
Viking...what should we look at in searching for a battery?? CA or CCA?? or amp hours?? I guess im stupid...but I've heard that the higher the CCA the better...just needed to learn more about it
