First of all, glad I found a place to ask questions because I have no clue about ohms and watts, etc. I have a pioneer CD stereo that is rated 200w, (50w x 4), the front speakers are pioneer 180w and the rear are pioneer 220watt. I want a 4 channel amplifier for these 4 speakers. What wattage amp will I need that will sound good at higher volumes without blowing my speakers? Thanks!
a good 4 channel amp in the range of 75 watts x 4 will yield a nice sound. Keep in mind, the 200 watt rating on your deck is not REAL power!!!!!!!!!!!!! A nice amp delivering 50 watts x 4 will outperform your HU ANY day!!!!!!!!!!! But to crank the volume, and if you have the money, get the most power you can afford! heres why............... It is better to send too much "clean power" to a speaker than too little "clipped/distorted power" to a speaker. they sound better and last longer that way basically a 100 watt speker can be blown by a 25 watt amp due to DC spikes during clipping/distortion. but 200 watts of intermittant CLEAN power will let them speaks run cool and carefree!!!!!!!! (within reason!!!!) bottom line, get the most clean power you can afford.................... OH and dont ask for the BEST AMP!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! I will have caddy BAN you LOL!!!!!!!!!!!!! just kiddin!
What Viking was trying to ask you was....how much are you looking to spend on an amp?? Remember you need wires also...so that'll add to the total cost
Thanks for the help guys, I was only wanting to spend $200 at the most for an amp. I'm not entering shows or anything, just want it to sound good when I want to turn up a kick@ss song. So basically a 300 to 400 watt 4 channel amp will do fine?
Like Viking said, those numbers you gave arent real power. Real poweer is measured in RMS watts. For your HU it is probably 18-20W RMS. Can you list model numbers of the HU and speakers?
