yes.. what you are hearing is distortion.. (dirty power)

make sure that the amp you choose has a low thd% (total harmonic distortion)

THD% shouldn't be the main thing you should look at...just as long as it isn't amazingly high.

An external added amp will always make speakers sound better.

    Whats your budget??

    AVOID SONY AT ALL COSTS!!!!!!!!!
    get a nice 200.4 or 250.4 amp
kicker is great for the cost

save up your money and buy a good amp.. there are lots of good amps that can be had for not much more than what you want to spend on the 'sploder.

otherwise you will spend twice as much in fire restoration.

sony's are not only inexpensive, they are CHEAP.

poor quality coupled with high production (so they could get the wal-mart and circuit city accounts) - please do not buy any more sony. turn back now, while there is still hope for you, my friend..

don't make us come over there and have an intervention..:D

So he is one of the SOB's that i need to whack in the head!

Gotta say myself, sony is not that great of a product, hasnt been for years. I installed literally hundreds of the HU's, and percentage wise, they had the most problems and issues. Even the sony made blaupunkt's were a joke.

I have not messed with them much lately other than a few decks that are about 3 ears old, out of those 3, one had internal amp failure, one had a CD transport blow chunks, and the other one wouldnt read a CD after a week or so. Sound quality was always just average, nothing special. The car audio amps, HAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAAHAHAHA!!!!!!!!!!!!

They work, for a while, then dont.

May i suggest an American amp, along the lines of soundstream, Orion, etc. (if they are even truely made here!)
