Okay...I want know the truth...but I sorta kinda already have an idea but I just need some more info. Situation is that your subs are in the trunk of your say sedan....Music is up are a fairly loud level and subs are bumping pretty good. "Myth" or whatever...if you open the trunk the subs will blow because they have too much airspace...also the "spider will overextend"...causing the sub to blow...I simply said you mean over excursion...its not only the spider...and that the enclosure controls the cone movement...I also said then what happens if your in an suv/hatch/wagon and the windows are down and your system is playing...essentially this is "too much air" right??? They just said...well it just does. This is what my friends always say...I asked them where they heard it and it was from a guy who heard it from a guy....I said bullsh*t...prove it. So...what do you other smart people think about this?? Will opening your trunk magically blow the subs if they are playing because of "too much airspace"???? I've had my system on full blast and open the trunk/hatch and the woofers have never just blew because of "too much airspace"
bull**** ive had my subs in the trunk of my eldorado with it opened and closed all the time and they havent blown ever.... what the hell do they know and how old are they 10?
Thats another vote for BS. The airspace inside the box works both ways. It cushions the sub from over-excursion going into the box as well as outside the box. It is just negative pressure pulling it back in as apposed to postive pushing it out. If you had a sub in a free air use(trunk space is the box) you could definately ruin the sub by opening the trunk. But, I doubt those guys you were talking to even know what a free air enclosure is.
Lol they are my good friends...I tried to tell them but they still believe what cannot be proven..only what they hear from other people.
ugh if you lived by PA id roll up in my caddy pop the trunk make them get real close and then turn the bass knob all the way up and BLOW them away blowing subs with the trunk open... havent they ever been to a stereo competition? or seen one? or seen pictures of one? Competitiors always pop their trunks to show off their subs beating away! What about hatchbacks or suvs or vans with no trunk and free air placement? Does that mean anyone who puts subs in an F-Body or an Escalade will blow them? NO! My JLs before being installed on my 97 Eldo were in my Trans AM with 2000 watts pushing to them for over a year and NOTHING EVER happenede to them. I really hate people who claim to know it all and have no idea lol. Nothing against you Azn but your "friends" have the intelegence of a rock when it comes to stereo systems lol.
I know...they are ignorant...they just believe it because they hear it from the installers at best buy and doctor dashboard...but I still tell them its bull****
I also vote for BS. So many installers have no clue and come up with really dumb explanations for things they don't understand. I even had a Planet Audio rep tell me that. He said if I played my van really loud and open a door, a woofer would blow. Never blew a woofer. What an idiot. He is supposed to be knowledgeable.
HAHAHAHAHAAHAH!!!!!! whoever told you this needs punched in the head!!!!!!!!!!!!! This is great, i heard this rumour up north about 12 years ago!!!!!! Tell THEM that if the amps gains are turned up to maximum, the amps will put out 50% more power and that the noise they hear is from the amps going into "mega capacity", Its due to a higher shift in the power supply frequency and the lower harmonics of the transformer back feed by way of electromagnatizm into the muffler bearings of the car and what ever else you can make up and pull out of your ass! freeking dumbasses!
Caps do one thing, and one thing only, make the cap manufacturers money! I have a cap for sale, its a bass pro cap, green and vented, will add 50% more power to your electrical system. especially when you hook your caps visor up to the alternators output and ground the headband adjustment to the fuel tank..........................
HAHA...yeah I showed this thread to one of my friends...he said alright and finally admitted that he was wrong. He said that he has been just going from what he's heard...I never believe what I just hear from people...prove it...simple as that
aww common i think your just looking for an excuse to blow things up... also look now you told those terriorists how to make a new bomb, watch they'll switch from plastic explosives in shampoo bottles and ipod detonators to cap alt and duel bombs ahahahaha!
as much as i hate to.....gotta play the devil's advocate here...... theoretically...if the speaker was playing just a hair below its physical and electrical limits....and one of the dimensions of the enclosure was changed the speaker could bottom out and "eventually" blow..... now think of the trunk as a band bass enclosure(the box is the inner chamber)....opening the trunk lid would make the second chamber(thr trunk itself) infinite baffle, creating less loading on the speaker ........it is possible....highly unlikely....but still possible just food for thought.....
sorry I'm late, but check off another for bs.. trunk airspace may make the enclosure "sound" and octave or two lower than what the subs are tuned at, but will not affect the longevity or actual efficiency of the subwoofers. by that token, if I roll down my windows in my truck, my subs will blow. tell your friends to read a little before they start silly rumors for us to laugh at. - hehe...
