Hi-a newbie here, in case you can't figure it out by my questions. I have a soon-2-be 16 year old with a '98 Dodge Neon. For his birthday I know he'd like a stereo upgrade. He currently has a Pioneer head unit from Best Buy that he really likes, what I had on hand was a 400-watt Pyle subwoofer(the kind I call a bass cannon)that fits in the trunk. I was going to put it in my '75 Duster but thought better of it, so he can have it. What I need to know is what type of amp I need to drive the sub and the 4 speakers that are currently in the car. They are upgraded speakers over the factory units but not sure of their capacity, would probably handle 40-50 watts each. Since I fully expect him to wreck the car in short order as did his 2 older sisters, I want to keep the cost reasonable. Any recommendations for an amp, and can one amp handle both the speaker and sub duties? Thanks in advance.
Dusters are really beyond cool. Rather talk about the Duster. Slant 6, 318 or 360? Which trannie, A-904, A-727, 833 or 833OD. Sorry I would only add an amp for the subwoofer for now. There are 5 channel amps out there but they tend to be a bit pricey. Your other option might be a 4 channel amp. Amp the 2 door speakers and power the sub with the other 2 channels bridged. I would still go with deck on speakers and one amp for the sub
amp hello. you can buy a 4 ch amp cheap online just look around. ive got a 4ch that i bought for 104.00 delivered.and i love it.100 x4 rms(continous power)anyways run the front speakers off of the amp the rear from the radio and bridge the rear ch to the sub.look for an amp witha built in crossover.etronics.com.mine is the LT960.hell for double the price get a 2 ch for the sub alone.check out my pics.both cost me 208.00 even.that was last year.my sub amp is aLT980.(power acoustik)hope that helps.
You really know your Dusters-mine has a 318 bored .030 over with Keith Black forged pistons, 9.5:1 compression, Edelbrock intake and 600 CFM carb, Mallory dual-point distributor with Accel Super Coil, Hedman headers with Flowmaster 40s, A904 with B&M shift kit and racing clutches, 8 1/4 rear with 3.55 SureGrip, front & rear sway bars, KYB shocks, poly bushings, traction bars-this thing will go around a corner as well as in a straight line. Factory buckets, console, and manual sunroof. Audio yet to be installed as it was the last thing on the list, but I think I like listening to the exhaust as well as anything. As far as the boy's car, I appreciate the advice. I know that the bass is important to him, but he'll need to hear the other frequencies, too. If the 4-channel bridgable sounds like the ticket, great. Any recommendations as to brand, model, and/or specs to look for? Thanks again; Bill
Thanks Pedro-I guess my follow-up question would be the same, how many amps should I look for in the 4-channel bridgable? Bill
Actually, both of the above, but in addition, how many watts should the amp be putting out? Thanks again; Bill
I guess bang for the buck, although we're talking a not-so-spiffy '98 Neon that probably won't last a year, so I'm trying to be practical, too.
