hey im new and pretty much new to aftermarket car audio. i drive a toyota highlander 2003 all stock. ive talked to my friends about adding speakers and subs but i wanna keep my stock head unit because i think it looks weird with aftermarket stuff. so they said just get a sub and amp and i can connect it to the signal from the head unit. i just wanna confirm if thats possible and if thats even a good idea just to add a sub. and if i wanna keep 200 and under, any recommended subs/amps?

    adding a sub

you could always try a bazooka tube with a biult in amp for just under 200 plus wiring.

    Pedro....patience...no use in triple posting

ryuen, if you are looking for some added bass for under 200 a bazooka tube would work nicely...yes you can use the high levels from the deck...just run a 10 gauge power wire from the battery and use the ignition wire for the remote lead.

    bass tube

i thought that bazookas had a switch built in so you dont have to run a remote lead.it senses the music input and turns on the amp.i could be wrong.

Well, I spent 800$ in these 2 sets of speakers (Boston Acoustics SL80 5x7 Component Plate System & JBL Power P8652 5x7 2-way), wiring, a tool kit, and a x4 car amp (Alpine MRP-F450 70W x4). I bought from crutchfield, so I got the harnesses, installation guides and 1 year warranty included.

I still need suggestions on sub/sub amp. There seems to be too much different opinions. Guys I like rock, hip hop, trance..everything...I prefer a smooth, sharp bass, rather than a massive vibrating crap in my trunk. Please help me on this.

    sub/amp

ok.so you dont need super loud bass that can be heard a block away.just inside.right?a 10 incher in a sealed box with about 200 to 250watts should work.

I bought a year ago 1 ten inch bazooka cs series woofers with a cs150.1 amp and a dual chamber sealed box from circuit city all for under 200...it was a package.

Back then I didn't care about loud ass bass but if I could I'd take that system back though...it was sooo balanced...but now I have explorer.
