I have alread bought a new head unit. I bought the Eclipse cd3000 and I love it. Have not found a cd that won't play no matter how scratched up it is.

I have been out of the car audio world for the last 4 years and would like some ideas for a 2003 mustang.

I would like to replace the factory speakers but don't know what brand to go with any more. I listen to rock most of the time. I care more about sound quality than anything else. Also the best bang for the buck.

I also have 2 Rockford HE2 sub's with an Phoienx Gold amp. Just one is hooked up right now. I want to replace with either 2 12's sealed or 2 10'2 ported.

A box for 2-12's in the trunk of a Mustang will be one tight fit. Its not about making it fit, its that the truck opening is so small, getting the box in is the problem. I would lean towards the 2-10 box. Much less of a headache.

Door speakers, do you have the Mach system. If not No Problem.
Any 5x7 or 6x8 will work well in the car. For deck power, I really like the Pioneer 6x8. I also like the Polk Audio 5x7. They will work well on deck power or with a small amp.

I don't have the mach system. I will be doing the install myself also. But would still like to keep the spare tire in. I will be using the deck power.

how would a wedge design sub box sound in a mustang. I could either make a sealed that is 12" H x 32" W x 15" D. Or a Ported that would be 12" H x 32" W x 24" D. The height is would be 9" for the Front and 15" for the Back for either type. I would like to put 2 old Rockford HE 12's in the box. And purchase a new amp also. Custum building the box is no concern I can do that myself.

Don't really know how else to know how it sounds besides trying it out.

Highest priority is to get the airspace you need for the subs. With the low frequencies subwoofers are playing. Enclosure shape is mostly a moot point. All this bs about standing waves is just that. Wave lengths at such low frequencies are way to large to form inside a small enclosure :)

My 10-cents worth, Build the largest box that you can physically get in and out of your trunk. Now you should be able to get a larger box in through the back seat. Remove the seat and the trim below the rear deck area (I've been here before). If I remember right you should be able to get a 12-1/2-inch tall box in that way.

I don't care about shape. Square, Rectangular, Sphere, Trapazoid, there all the same to me.

Once you have the largest possible volume that you can fit in the truck, I would suggest 1-12-inch woofer and a 6 inch Diameter port (2-4-inch ports will work even though they will have less cross sectional area). I recommend a tuning around 38-40 Hz with HE2.

I already have the 2 he 12's. I have designed a box that will work but will have to be built in 2 boxes. The box is 2.06 ft3 for each sub. The box will be built so that I can still get to my spare. The front of the box is 8" tall X 16" wide X 16" Long the back section will be built like a wedge box it is 14" tall X16" wide X 16" Long. Would a port on the front of these boxes work with the sub in the back section and what is the Ideal tuning for listening to rock.

I am not sure I understand. You say you have 2 cu ft per sub, or 4 cu ft total. The maximum area I get from the dimensions you provided is 3.25 cu ft.

If I were building this box, I would have both woofer sharing the same air space. I would not seperate them. Ports and woofers should be on the same baffle. If you will be using multiple ports, they should be seperated, but still be in close proximity to the woofers.

2 HE2's in a 3.25 cu ft box need 2 4-inch ports around 9-inches long. That should put your tuning around 40 HZ.
