hey guys i have 2 12 inch jl w6v2's 400 watts rms each, 4 ohm dual voice coil. i also have a memphis 16st1000d amp,but im not sure if this will have enough power for my subs...if not, im gonna go with the 1000/1 amp from jl...even though its pricey...but since my subs are 4 ohm dvc, i can wire them to 1 ohm in parallel and my memphis amp is 1 ohm stable andputs out 1100 watts i believe @ 1 ohm...let me know what you guys think...also it will be in a ported enclosure.
yeah, that should be fine.. try it, and if they seem underpowered, then get a new amp, but they should do well in the correct ported enclosure.. Memphis makes decent amps.
My friend has that same amp on 2 12L7s...Thats more than enough for those JL's. Thats a very nice amp too...runs really cool...It never even gets too hot to touch...always just warm.
i have 3 12w6v1s hooked up to a USAMP DE-1000 runs 2000 watts rms at 1 ohm i have to keep the base nob half way any more and it drowns out my treb. 1000 watts should be PLENTY ive seen ppl run 500 watts to 2 w6s and they still outperform just about any sub
ok one more thing....my amp puts out 1100 watts at 1 ohm (stable at 1 ohm) and 600 watts at 2 ohms...obviously, i want to wire my subs to 1 ohm. ok so i have 2 4ohm dual voice coil subs so if i wire them both in parallel i should be at one ohm correct? ok but my amp has 2 inputs (2 pos, 2 neg) for me to hook up my subs...i have both my subs in their own ported box...now if they are both hooked up to the amp,one to each input, would i just be running each sub at 2 ohms? how could i wire them to 1 ohm?
Yes just wire both subs in parallel then those wires to one pos and one neg. This will give you a final 1 ohm load. The two sets of inputs is just one set. There is no left or right channel if you look closely. They are connected to each other inside the amp. Some amps just have two POS and two NEG for ease of wiring two subs to the amp.
just for curiousities sake, what would happen if i wired one in parallel and one in series? would i end with a 4 ohm load ? again im not gonna try it im just curious...
If you wire one in series and one in parallel the one paralled would recieve twice the voltage(AC). The ending load would be in the vicinity of 1.67 ohms.
Wouldnt sound good if you did it that way...would be better if you wired both in parallel series and not just one parallel and one series. Wiring those subs in series parallel would give you a 4 ohm load and the sound quality will improve. THD on that amp at 1 ohm is i believe 1% (correct me if im wrong..just off the top of my head)
No, you'd end up with a 2ohm load.. electricity takes the path of least resistance, and since the outputs are not separate, (just two parallel outputs) the power would all go through the sub at the lower impedance. I know you guys are gonna yell at me Yes, you would hear sound from the one in series and there would be power going through it (which would be at 8 ohms), but the amp will still see the load at 2 ohms, and that's what matters. Plus, that setup would put too much emphasis on the sub wired at 2ohms, and would sound something like a dehydrated donkey with dry heaves. Please do not do that
Sorry but this just has to be a yo momma comment... Wired weird like that would make your subs sound like your mom screaming my name at the top of her lungs like last night:jawdrop:
