I have a JL Audio E1200 and a Alpine V12 MRD-M301. What amp should I use to run my Sub ? Both amps can run @ 2 ohm's

    What's your sub?

I have a JL 12w3 d4. I was thinking of buying a Kicker sub/box combo that fits in my Pickup I think it is a d4.

    what sub are you running?
the jl is ratedd 200x1. the alpine is rated 150x1. and the time correction capabilities on the alpine really don't matter cause it's just one speaker, (and a sub, for that matter). Either one will work great. My suggestion would be to hook up both and see which you like better, but I know you will get different opinions here. I personally prefer alpine amps to jl and prefer jl subs to alpine, but I have never owned either of those amps, so I guess I look pretty silly for typing this, huh?

well that was about five seconds too late- oops

yeah.. smartypants. . I was finished with my reply, and then had to take a phone call before I posted it, and then after I did, I realized that it was too late.. So, go ahead.. rub it in.. I already feel like a jackass about the copying links thing, oh and the posting images thing, and oh, yeah!, the thing about spelling gauge as gUAge.

you know I'm just kidding.. thanks for making me blush - and laugh!

I'v decided to use my JL 12w3 sub. I know both amps are rated very close to each other, I was just wondering if anyone knew what amp would work better?

I installed the Sub and tried each amp, I thin k the Alpine sounds better and doesn't overheat.

yeah, it boils down to that.. which will work better for you..
    glad you solved your dilemma

    was your jl amp overheating?

Yes it was overheating, I don't have A/C in my truck and even with the window down it didn't help.

I'd like to think that outside air temp wouldn't have much to do with an amp's ability to function normally. I'd suspect that there's something wrong with the amp (you might try to add a cooling fan), but O.A.T. shouldn't make a difference. I have ac in my truck, but rarely use it and don't have any problems with my amp (or any other amps I've had before) shutting off due to overheating. If I pound nonstop for hours, I can sometimes smell the insulation on my wires getting warm, but it still never kicks off even being in a somewhat confined space.

I have had them overheat, but it was because they weren't stable at the impedance I was trying to push. I'm no expert, but it just sounds to me like something isn't quite right.

I would totally recommend the jl over the kicker, but not if you're gonna have to fill out an insurance claim...
